Grant Thomas created Travel with Grant in May 2013 with the mission to help families travel the world for as cheaply as possible while they relax and bond with each other.  I have read hundreds of travel blogs and pulled together the collective knowledge of their thoughts and ideas.  I added my interpretation and a few tricks to create added value to you, my valued readers.  I am always looking for the next great travel deal and will share my findings here.

The following post is probably the craziest “About Grant” page you’ve seen today, maybe even this week.  Here goes nothin’…

I love Segway Tours, in fact, I have done seven different Segway Tours:

On my recent trip to Honolulu with my brother, we flew there in First Class for under $300 round trip.  Free Mai Tai’s all the way…

We attempted to eat three giant pancakes at Mac 24/7 (and failed miserably)…

We ate some delicious pineapple ice cream at the Dole Pineapple Plantation

We visited the USS Arizona at the Pearl Harbor Memorial

And we got lost hiking in the forest.  (Someone should really put up a sign or something.)

I went on a walking Ghost Tour in Downtown Albuquerque and they gave me this Ghostbuster-looking button.

And I went hang gliding above the Albuquerque dessert (thank you Groupon).

On a recent trip to Europe (specifically Netherlands, Germany, France, and Belgium), my friend shot down the Eiffel Tower…

I had a Nutella and pear crepes near the Moulin Rouge in Paris…

And drank a few pints of beer at Hofbraeuhaus in Munich, Germany.

I almost won the NCAA College Football’s Coaches Trophy while visiting the Waterford Crystal Factory in Ireland.

But when I am not travelling (those are the toughest days), I enjoy catching catfish in Eatonton, Georgia

Going to Cal State Fullerton baseball games (or any college baseball game for that matter)… Fullerton Baseball Or working on cartoony HEYE Puzzles with my dad. Heye Puzzles

    Hey, Grant,
Do you know if there is a routing number and account number on the debit gift card? I am going to pay tuition fee soon but there is a fee involved if I pay with credit card. Could you suggest which kind of card I can buy at cvs to pay for the tuition fee? The payment need routing number and account number. Thanks!

Good morning Yan, Bluebird, GoBank and other prepaid reloadable gift cards have routing and account numbers. It might take 1-2 weeks to get those cards and accounts set up. When is tuition payment due? You could load up Bluebird and have Bluebird mail a check to the college, which might be easier.

i have a family with 4 citi AA exec cards as primaries and Chase Ink Plus (me primary and family as secondary) Whats the best way to maximize value on these cards for travel or points or cashback or whatever with everyday purchases. GC thru portals via new card? or any better way for quick big MS like with a stock brokerage account deposited via cc? I been spending too much time on this as much I love it all, and would like to get back to my other stuff if take care of the spend….no VR, they all wanted in on it but i am gonna be managing it all. I just can’t get it organized and figured out to where I can do something else… i was hoping evolve would pan out but its stricter. I can even do legit spend but and meet minimum but eventhough bluebird would cover that cc processing fee i would otherwise pay with property taxes, I do need a method to charge pay my real estate property taxes that are great than 5k. so i can get mileage and meet minumum and annual spend and not quit my day job…. for newbies, the learning curve is steep and setting things up legit first is more useful fort CC companies and credit bureaus than GC ways alone. I need to manage 4 people MS with citi aa and chase ink plus, and try to meet 2k/month for 6 months from Discover that they offered to come back to them after my first apporama ever. Disc want me to spend 2k/month for 6 months starting July. Citi and Chase not doing but something different. Would like to meet all of it on all cards for everyone. With high credit limit cards their must be a better way sorry if kinda tired, been up all night, BTW- anything worth doing with birthday and simon card, can using bday as real reason for MS to do large amts safely. online web trade accts or 5k at a time…??

Hmm, just use the AA miles for award trips and transfer Chase Ultimate Reward Points to their transfer partners. What other questions do you have?

I often buy stuff on Ebay. Just want to clarify something with you. Do you get compensated when I pay via PayPal or after I win the auction? Meaning that I must bid on Ebay thru your site or I must pay via PayPal thru your site?

    1. Grant

I earn a commission from Ebay when you click the Ebay logo on my sidebar and go to Ebay. From there, if you Buy It Now or bid and win an auction, I receive a commission after you pay the seller. Thank you for your support!

    Hey Grant,
I got a quick question. I usually buy my visa gift cards from Walmart $500 for $4.95 fee. Today I was told that only cash or debit is accepted. I don’t know if this is happening at all the Walmarts or not. Anyway, the only visa gift cards that I know you pay $5 fee for $500 is Walmart and vanilla. Vanilla obviously you no longer can load to bluebird. Also, I know Simon mall visa gift cards are $4 but they’re far from me. It’s not worth the drive. Walmart visa gift cards were my only options for me to load to bluebird. Do you know any other place that sells visa gift cards for $5 fee for $500 that can be loaded to bluebird??

I went to walmart today to load simon VGC and I received the error message “Debit not approved Call authorizer”. I have not reached my limit for the month yet. Have you heard of anyone having problems loading BB lately?

  8. Paul

I was able to load $100 of the gift card to red bird. I had $100 left on my $5k limit. I am gonna try other walmarts to see what happens. Have you loaded anything to BB as of today?

Hi Greg, no update yet, still trying to plan my next Sacramento meetup next and then I will go back down to Fremont. Keep checking the blog and you will see the next meetup dates. Have a great weekend!

Here’s a tough one… I am going to get $2000 of elective surgery (hopefully to improve my looks) and of course the doctor will only take check/cash. The Proper loan group they use for those who don’t have it charge near 5% even with perfect credit and you can pay back only electronically from your bank.
Any ideas how I can get the work done and still get a little return on my $2000 investment?

    Hi Grant,
I really just discovered your blog, and a bit chagrined I’m missing the get together this week. We’re off to Tokyo (3 of us in SQ suites) tomorrow, but perhaps I can make the next one. I’m in the East Bay, and happy to know of a group in the area.
