Driving Up to the Bay Area and Listening to Serial Podcast

Good evening everyone, after a 6 hour drive from Irvine to Walnut Creek, I have finally settled in to my new room.  My dad drove up with me and I bought him a Southwest Airlines ticket home from Oakland to Orange County (OAK-SNA) #bestdadever.  As we drove, we listened to the Serial Podcast, described on their website as:

Serial is a new podcast from the creators of This American Life, hosted by Sarah Koenig. Serial will follow one story – a true story – over the course of a whole season. We’ll follow the plot and characters wherever they take us and we won’t know what happens at the end of the story until we get there, not long before you get there with us. Each week we’ll bring you the latest chapter, so it’s important to listen in order, starting with Episode 1.

If you like murder mysteries and excellent investigative journalism, you might like this podcast.  If you have an iPhone, iPod, iPad, or iTunes, you can subscribe to the podcast for free, which is a weekly audio program that automatically downloads the latest episode straight to your device.  You can subscribe here.  The episodes come out every Thursday and I have a few more episodes to go until I am all caught up.

This afternoon, I went to the local Office Max to pick up a surge protector and a wireless USB adapter so that my desktop computer could connect to the local wireless network (no LAN/Ethernet here).  To my disappointment, I forgot to check my email and didn’t see this deal for $20 off a $300+ Visa or MasterCard gift card purchase that Doctor of Credit posted.

Last but not least, I was wondering if any readers wanted to meet up this weekend (probably Saturday afternoon) for lunch somewhere near Walnut Creek and talk miles and points.  I checked In-N-Out, but the closest restaurants are in Pleasant Hill and San Ramon.  Anyone have any closer restaurants they can recommend for this area?

I’m doing a few errands in the morning, but I should have 1-2 blog posts up tomorrow evening. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great evening everyone!

I wish I could come but I’m going to Hawaii! I highly recommend Gotta Eatta Pita. :) It’s like Chipotle but for Mediterranean food. My friends from the Middle East say that they have the best falafel and couscous they’ve had in the Bay Area! There are 3 locations in the East Bay and I go there at least once a week now!

Don’t know what the fascination with in and out is. I think it’s crap food.

Across from Target is Fuddruckers, a custom burger joint, but it’s seen better days (needs a deep clean). There’s also another custom burger joint called The Counter a few blocks away but I’ve never tried it. 4 stars on Yelp, mainly due to slow service when busy. Supposedly has full bar.

Don’t think this weekend is a great time. WC is a shopping hub and can get pretty crazy this time of year. I’d suggest in January after he crowds are done shopping.

Thanks Paul, I’ve been to Fuddruckers and The Counter before (both are in SoCal). I prefer The Counter, pretty good burgers, fries, milkshakes, and adult milkshakes (alcohol). You are right about the shopping crowds. The shopping area gets really busy on the weekends, so it might not be a great weekend to meet. I guess I will try again in early January and see if anyone is interested in meeting up.

Sounds great Alex, I will be out of town back to back weekends for Christmas and New Years, but I should be available the second weekend of January. I believe there is one other reader who lives in Walnut Creek and a few other readers in nearby cities.
