Epic RV Road Trip from Los Angeles to Denver thanks to TransferCar

Good evening from St. George, Utah.  This is day 2 of my epic RV road trip from Los Angeles to Denver, made possible by TransferCar’s $1 per rental day service.  I wrote about TransferCar a few weeks ago here: Get Free One Way Car or RV Rentals with TransferCar.

I promise to write more about the service and my experience, but for now, I wanted to share some pics from my trip.  Here is my 27 foot RV rental.  It is not the huge RV (thank goodness), but it is somewhat tricky to drive.

Move over Singapore Suites and Amtrak Bedroom Sleeper (link), this is the biggest bed you can get on a moving vehicle (not necessary the comfiest, but probably the biggest).

But she does use up a bunch of gas, luckily my Discover It Credit Card is offering 5% cash back at gas stations this quarter.

After a short drive into Lake Mead National Park, we stopped and walked through the Anniversary Narrows, which is a narrow passageway between 2 tall rock formations.

Since I will be on the road, sleeping off the road, and hiking in different national parks, my email and post activity will decrease, but I will still answer all comments and emails, just give me a few extra hours or a day to get back to you.  My other goal is to stop by various Target stores in Utah and Colorado and try to pick up activated temp Redbird Cards.  I want to sell these to make some money to pay for the gas.  The going rate is $30 per Redbird Card.  If anyone is interested, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great evening!

Grant, please put me on the “definitely, yes please” list if you pick up Redbird Cards. Thanks! Enjoy your trip – can’t wait for the trip report because I’ve wanted to do this for years.

You are added to the Redbird list. I hope I can stop by a few Targets in Utah and Colorado. I’ve always wanted to do an RV road trip and this week my dreams came true. I’m learning so much about RVs and the RV lifestyle so I will be sure to pass along all the helpful info I can.

You got it Zippy, nice meeting you at FTU SD, sorry we didn’t have more time to chat. If you are ever in the Bay Area, let me know.

Hi Grant: looking forward to your detailed trip report, as the TransferCar RV deal is something I have been wanting to do (thanks for “paving” the way!). I’m definitely in for a RedBird card!
    Thanks.

I’ve added you to the Redbird list. So far, my RV experience has gone pretty well. There is definitely a learning “curve in the road” before you master the RV. Is there anything in particular that you want to know?

Hello other Grant, I will add you to the list. Apparently there is only 1 Target in SE Utah, the majority of stores are in the SLC area. Colorado should have plenty more available.

Grant – looks like a fun trip. How well equipped do the RVs come with items like pots, pans (cooking supplies), coffee pot, plates, cups, linen, etc, etc, if at all? Did you bring any of that stuff with you? Did they supply propane? Thanks & have fun!

Great questions Joe. There is a built in generator and propane unit to power the AC, heat, stove, oven, refrigerator and freezer.

You can bring your own pots and pans, but on a one way rental, we decided to rent them. Kind of a mistake since neither my brother or I will cook on the trip. Lastly, you can bring your own sheets and pillows, or you can rent those. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Grant. It was great getting to know you at FTU San Diego. Hope you are having a wonderful trip. If you can swing it, I would like 5 Redbirds. Thank you.

I’m glad we had a chance to talk during the FTU SD weekend. I’ll do my best to get you 5 Redbird Cards, otherwise I will ask my friend Nigel to help me out.

I have a pretty long list of Redbird Cards to get, but hopefully I will be able to pick up a few. I’ll send you an email later this week.

Are there Redbirds available in LA County or just the locations we discussed at the meetup? The ones in the San Gabriel Valley don’t have them. I would pay $30 to support your site and what you do but would prefer to save that for the future MS section.

There should be a few LAX-DEN RV rentals still available. New rentals become available every few days. Are you interested in visiting a few national/state parks along the way? We are just leaving Canyonlands National Park.
