iTunes AMEX Offer Update: Statement Credits and Shopping Portal Bonuses Posted

(Hat Tip to Racerboy80 for confirming both bonuses posted)

Good morning everyone, TGI Friday!  A few days ago, I posted AMEX Offers: Free $5 from iTunes and Free $10 from Rhapsody.  The offer was pretty good, spend $5 on iTunes and get a $5 statement credit.  Some people reported getting a better AMEX Offer that said spend $10 on iTunes and get a $10 statement credit.  I went through Ebates and purchased a $10 iTunes eGift Card.  Would both actions earn cash back?

iTunes AMEX Offer

Yes, American Express just credited my $5 statement credit for completing the AMEX Offer.

iTunes Statement Credit AMEX Offer

Yes, Ebates paid me 70 cents (7% of $10) for my $10 iTunes eGift Card.

Ebates Cash Back Update iTunes

By the way, Virgin America is offering $16 cash back per booking (book one way flights for each per person to maximize the deal).  I wrote about the Ebates’ 16th Birthday and their shopping button here.

Sorry if it’s a dumb question, but how do you use a portal when buying through the desktop iTunes program? The portal just leads me to the itunes program download page, and not sure how a portal can track what you do in the desktop app

I’m not exactly sure, but it worked for me. Have iTunes open and then go through the online portal steps. You should see a button to launch iTunes. Try using a different browser if it doesn’t work for you.

There is a feature call “iTunes Pass” where you can create a passbook entry for your iTunes account and then use it to refill your account at a retail Apple store. I wonder if you could only load $5 this way? And if it would trigger the Amex Offer?

That’s a good idea. The downside is that you have to go in store and constantly change your credit card in iTunes to keep triggering the credit. With my 20 cards this would take a lot of patience for me and the Apple Store employee. My concern is that since you are loading in store, this will show as an Apple Store purchase instead of iTunes.com.

I was able to do a test with iTunes Pass for less than $1, but it posts as the retail store. So doesn’t help here… but maybe in the future somehow.

@Todd there is no cc linked with iTunes Pass. I think the point is to be able to share your account QR code so anyone can load it directly without the need of gift cards.
