New or Renewed US Passport? Remember to Update your Global Entry Online Account

Good morning everyone, happy Wednesday!  I just received my renewed passport (with extra pages and passport card) yesterday and wanted to share a quick tip with you.  Since Global Entry is tied to your fingerprints and your passport, you will need to update your Global Entry online account when you get a new or renewed passport, since the passport number and dates will change.  All you need to do is log into your Global Entry account online (https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov/main/goes).  I will give you a few minutes to remember your username and reset your password (that happened to me too).  If you have Sentri, NEXUS, or FAST, the process should be verify similar.

Big Hat Tip to my friends @TheFlightDeal on Twitter for the help.  I am also contractually obligated to give a second hat tip to my overlord @dvlsadvcate (Julian – The Devil’s Advocate).

Global Entry Home Page

After logging in, click the Update Documents link on the left hand side.  As you can see, I was conditionally approved for Global Entry in 2013, I was approved by Global Entry in 2014, and my membership and Trusted Traveler Number (TSA PreCheck number) expires in 2019.

Global Entry Acccount Landing Page

My passport was set to expire in early 2017 which would not be good for my January trip to Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.  To update your passport information, click the Update link under the Passport 1 header.  My driver’s license was also expired, so I needed to update that information as well.

Global Entry Update Documents

Enter your new passport number, issuance date, and expiration date.  Then click the Next button.

Global Entry Update Passport Info New

Verify that the new information is correct and click the Done button.

Global Entry Update Passport Info Verify

Go back to the Update Documents page and verify that the new passport information is showing up.  My new 2016 passport expires in 2026.  Woo hoo!  Time to get my Brazilian visa!

I’m not sure, I only know what the process is for US citizens. But, if you already have Global Entry, I believe it is only a simple update. Let me know what you find out. Thank you.

How long did it take to get your passport renewed? Trying to figure out timing around a couple of trips.

I have a friend that works at Allied Passport and visa who expedited my passport renewal process. I believe if you do it yourself, the process can take 1 to 2 months for the new passport to arrive.

I just did it on my own using US express mail both ways and not paying any express fee. I got it back in about 3 weeks. And I also had to reset the Global Entry password to update the info.

How long does it take them to update??? I entered my new driver’s license (new state) last week and the website still doesn’t reflect the change.

That’s strange, try again and see if it works. If not, you may need to call them to have them update your drivers information.

New info: Just got off the phone with them. If you get a driver’s license from another state (different from the one that you have on the record) then you have to go to an enrollment center to have them update it manually. Just got off the phone with an enrollment center and this was what I was told. The online system will not allow to update DL if you have to switch the state. She said, “It’s a computer thing..”

Uh oh. I don’t know how important it is to have updated drivers license info on Global Entry’s website. You don’t show both pieces of info at the same time. As long as your passport is up to date, you should be ok.

Passport is OK. But I hear horror stories on FT about people getting their NEXUS voided because they didn’t keep information updated…and it is one of the things that you are supposed to keep updated. So I’m going to fly into YVR (NEXUS open every day, no appointment needed), get my iris scanned, and have them update the DL. Should be a fun weekend…
