How to Find Hidden Hyatt Free Night Certificates from Credit Card Anniversary & Sign Up Bonus

Good afternoon everyone.  This post was inspired by Adam’s question from my post: Hyatt Anniversary Free Night Certificate Now Bookable Online (Category 1-4 Hotels).  To summarize Adam’s question, he said that he could not find his Hyatt free night certificates in his Hyatt Gold Passport account after the World of Hyatt facelift/makeover.  I was able to find my anniversary Hyatt free night certificate (from my Chase Hyatt Credit Card) after clicking around, but the process is not obvious or straightforward.  Most people would sign into their Hyatt account and click on the My Account tab.

On this page, you would expect to see your recent account activity, upcoming reservations, past reservations, and free night certificates, but the Account Activity section is completely empty.  If you don’t believe me, check your own Hyatt account and let me know if you see any account activity.

Fortunately, I found a work around.  Go to the bottom of the page and click “Modify / Cancel” under the Reservations header.

For whatever reason, this brings you back to the My Account page and populates the Account Activity section with your reservation details, past activity, and free night certificates.  Under the My Reservations tab, you can view all of your upcoming reservations.

Under the My Past Activity tab, you can see your recent Hyatt transactions.  The more you read into the details below, the more you will be confused.

Lastly, under the My Awards tab, you can see your Hyatt free night certificates (both from the credit card sign up bonus and credit card anniversary).  You must complete your stay by the expiration date listed.  It is very difficult / impossible to extend your expiration date.

Another quick way to view your account activity is to click the My Reservations link at the top of the Hyatt homepage.  Alternatively, you can click here to go directly to your Account Activity page.

Great post! It was hard to find it in the first place anyway in the accounts section.

I can find nights to book the annual free night at the Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf (Cat 4), but can’t find nights at HP Waikiki (Cat 3) even though HP Waikiki has nights available for 12000 points. The free nights at the Hyatt Centric are mostly ADA rooms and so are the 12k points nights at the HP Waikiki. I also cannot find anything that HP Waikiki is excluded from the redemption of the annual free night. Is the annual free night availability at the discretion of individual Hyatt properties?

Hmm, it should work. I’m not sure why you are getting an error booking. You might need to call Hyatt to have them book the award nights for you. Let me know what you hear from Hyatt. Thank you.

P, for what it’s worth, I also had difficulty trying to book the HP Waikiki online using the free night. Called in and they had no issues booking it over the phone.

Thanks, Grant and Randy. Yes, calling Hyatt is what I’m going to do. My award night doesn’t expire until June, but I may not be able to use it earlier – no Cat 4 or lower where I’m going and also staying Hilton. Since I live in Hawaii, I figured I’d just use it at HP Waikiki.

I think there is something else going on with your account. Perhaps a bug/glitch. I don’t have the issue you’re describing above with the Account Activity section being completely empty. When I login, I see everything. Very odd…

Hmm, that’s entirely possible. I have access to my mom and dad’s Hyatt account (thanks to Award Wallet) so I will check their accounts and see if the bug/glitch is present there.

EDIT: I checked my Hyatt account and my mom and dad’s Hyatt account and the Account Activity section loads every time. I am not sure if this was a temporary glitch or if Hyatt fixed the problem really fast. Either way, I am glad it is working now.

Yay!!! Glad it’s back to normal. I login pretty often and haven’t had this issue, yet! Hope I didn’t jinx myself haha.

I had the same problem a couple of days ago. I’ve been tracking “free nights” in Award Wallet and my Hyatt night disappeared from there too. I went to the hotel page where I wanted to book a night. When I checked the “Show Hyatt Gold Passport Points & Awards” box, three tabs came up: Free Night, Points, Points + Cash.

My account page seems to be fine now too.

Thanks Dee. Yes, it’s nice that the free night pops up in search results. If you find a reasonably priced category 3-4 Hyatt, I would try to use the free night certificate sooner rather than later. Lots of people forget to use their certificate in time and waste it or let it expire.

Does the free anniversary night need to be booked or stay completed before the expiration date?

Also, my free night disappeared from my AW account and my Account Activity at Hyatt is blank like yours. I wasn’t able to login the past few days so maybe it’s related to that.

I’ve heard that Hyatt was updating their site the last few days, so it might just be an IT issue. You need to complete your stay by the date listed on your anniversary free night certificate.
