Good Wednesday morning everyone.  A few weeks ago, I returned from my short week-long trip to South America.  Before I left for my trip, I wrote Trip Planning and Award Booking for South America: Bogota, Buenos Aires & Iguazu Falls.  Shortly after returning from my trip, I wrote Grant is Back from South America: Upcoming Hotel Reviews & Trip Reports.  I am sorry for the delay, but I am finally starting my trip report.  Starting chronologically, I will start with my 2 night stay at the Aloft Bogota Airport Hotel (pictured below is an artist rendition, the actual hotel does not look as colorful in real life).

The hotel is an SPG category 1 hotel, which costs 3,000 SPG points on weekdays and 2,000 SPG points on weekends.  It is a short 9-10 minute drive (Google Maps) from the Bogota, Colombia international airport and there is a free airport shuttle that runs 24 hours.  We landed a few minutes before midnight on Saturday evening and by the time we made it through customs and to the departures (upper) level, the hotel shuttle was just pulling up.  We only spent 1 full day in Bogota and flew out around noon on Monday afternoon, so a convenient airport hotel was all that was needed.

Here are pictures from our room: 2 queen beds, 2 desks, a bathroom and shower.

Since my travel companion is an SPG Platinum Elite member, we got free breakfast in the hotel restaurant every day.  I am an SPG Gold Elite member, so I think I would have gotten free breakfast as well, but we used his elite status during the stay.  The breakfast was very good.  I love trying the local fruits, so you will see lots of pictures of fruit in my upcoming hotel reviews.  The juices and pastries were very good as well.

During Sunday night, we hung out at the W XYZ bar inside the hotel.  There were NFL playoff games on TV, so we watched the games with other (American) tourists.  They had a few beers on tap (BBC = British Broadcasting Corporation Bogota Beer Company) that were pretty good.

Lastly, here is a video from the SPG/Aloft website that shows the inside and outside of the hotel.  The pictures look much better in this video than they did in real life.

If you have any questions about the Aloft Bogota Airport, please leave a comment below.  Up next, I will share what we did in Bogota and how cheap everything is in Colombia.  Stay tuned!

What made you think you would have gotten free breakfast as Gold? Just asking because I’m gold as well and have stayed at a few Aloft properties and never been offered breakfast.

Hmm, I don’t know, I usually ask if breakfast is included and usually it is. I stay at a lot of hotel chains and have mid tier or top tier elite status with most of them.

Yes, big props for a 24 hour airport shuttle. I have stayed at airport hotels that do not run their shuttle after midnight which kinda sucks when you delayed flight lands a little after midnight, requiring you to take a taxi to the hotel. Kind of defeats the point of an airport hotel :/

I booked this hotel for my partner when we visited Colombia in October, but I didn’t set foot inside – my Uber just dropped him off and then sped off for the airport, where I came within probably a minute of missing my flight (the lines for outbound passport control were atrocious…)

I always under estimate the check in lines and security/passport control at international airports. Glad you made your flight by a few minutes/seconds.
