Trip Recommendations for Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  Tonight, I am going on a family vacation with my parents and brother to Saint Kitts and Nevis (which is in the Caribbean).  Here is the routing for my flight (thanks to Great Circle Mapper):

  • San Francisco (SFO) to Atlanta (ATL) to Saint Kitts and Nevis (SKB) on Delta Airlines using 27,500 Delta SkyMiles + $15.60 in taxes/fees
  • I will visit the SFO Centurion Lounge tonight and then visit a Delta Sky Club Lounge in ATL in the morning (both free since I have the American Express Business Platinum Charge Card)
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis (SKB) to Miami (MIA) on American Airlines using 10,000 British Airways Avios + $53.46 in taxes/fees
  • I have a long layover and need to go from MIA to FLL – I think I will stop by the beach for some lunch before going to FLL
  • Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to San Francisco (SFO) on Virgin America using 8,094 Virgin America Elevate Miles + $5.60 in taxes/fees

Unfortunately, I did not write down the flight prices at the time I booked these flights, but I remember getting pretty good value out of my miles when I booked these flights.

We are staying at the Marriott Saint Kitts Beach Club Vacation Club (timeshare property) since my parents are Marriott timeshare owners and were able to trade their week for this property.  It looks beautiful and I will do my best to check out all the pools on the property.

Here are the nightly rates for this weekend.  Seems like a great use of Marriott points at 45,000 Marriott points per night or 15,000 SPG points per night.

I’ve been to the Caribbean a few times in the last few years: St. Thomas US Virgin Islands (with a day trip to the British Virgin Islands), Aruba, and Curacao.  After visiting a few Caribbean islands, I know the weather is supposed to be great, the beaches are supposed to be beautiful, and the people are supposed to be very friendly.  If anyone has been to Saint Kitts and Nevis recently, do you have any recommendations for sights to see, activities to do, or restaurants to eat at?  I don’t think we have anything planned as of now.

Thank you for your help and I wish everyone a fun weekend and safe travels wherever you may be or wherever you may be traveling to.  I will bring my laptop and I have a few blog posts in the pipeline along with some great posts from my fellow writers.  Stay tuned!

I booked American Air flights to St Kitts for Dec 2016 in anticipation of the long-delayed Hyatt opening, and when they kept floundering (and still ongoing) I was checking out the Marriott (and the Four Seasons on Nevis). The Marriott had an All-Inclusive Option that was intriguing (minimum requirement was 4 nights). As it was, we ending up canceling our flights for an unrelated matter, so St Kitts is still on my short list for 2017 or 2018. Anyway, would love to hear about the specifics of the all-inclusive options at the Marriott if you get any details and about the Marriott property in general..

Will do, I’ll do my best to cover the all inclusive aspects. I’m not 100% sure how it all works since my parents booked the resort, but I’ll keep you posted.

It’s been a little over 10 years since I stayed at the Marriott there, I remember they recommended a local fish (and local lobster resteraunt) which was a short taxi and awesome food.

Awesome, I would love to eat lobster again. It’s been far too long since my last lobster dinner. I hope you had a great time during your last stay. Anything I should know about the Marriott?

We went a few years ago and St Kitts is still our favorite Caribbean island. We hiked up Mount Liamuiga volcano, through a tropical rainforest. There was a downpour and the canopy was so thick, we couldn’t tell if was raining but for the sound. You can see neighboring Island from the top. Amazing experience!
We walked to the Marriott from the Timothy Beach Resort where we were staying. The water is definitely calmer in Frigate Bay (Caribbean) then the Marriott (Atlantic). Great nightlife and eats along the bay as well. Try Mr X’s Shiggidy Shack.

Great recommendations, Marvin. The hike sounds great, I’m sure we will do that. We might go to Mr X’s Shiggidy Shack too :)

Ottley’s Plantation serves delicious food. The Marriott has a cool pizza shack that actually serves decent pizza. The seafood restaurant on property was expensive but mediocre if you ask me. The on site steak restaurant was okay but not memorable and the service was spotty. Nevis has Golden Rock inn that serves a delicious lunch.

Awesome, thank you for the restaurant recommendations. I will keep them in mind :)

UPDATE: I did eat at the Pizza Shack on the Marriott property and thought the pizzas were really good. I ordered a large pizza and 2 calzones to go and they were ready in 15-20 mins.
