Hyatt Quietly Killed their Try the World Gift Boxes (& I’m Missing My Last 2 Boxes)

I’m frustrated and at my wits’ end with Hyatt’s Try The World gift box of the month program. Their logo is “Connecting you to the people, places, and experiences at the heart of your world,” but all this program has connected me to is frustration and confusion! As a consumer, travel blogger, and Hyatt Globalist who will again qualify as a Globalist, all I can say is, “Hyatt, you have failed big time, and I’m in the mood to vent!”

Here’s the rest of the story. You’ll recall that Grant and I thought it would be fun to sign up for the Try The World gift box program and review the boxes for our readers. So we did. The first box, which highlighted France, was received in the middle of July and I reviewed it here. I actually gave it a pretty favorable review and was looking forward to the next box, which would either highlight India or Turkey. And I waited and waited and no box ever came…

I didn’t want Grant to think I was a slacker who had eaten all the Try The World goodies from the next box and never wrote a review, so I finally told him the next box never came. After all, it had been two months and this was supposed to be a gift box every month program.

Like any savvy consumer asking for help, Grant reached out to Hyatt (@HyattConcierge) on Twitter. As you can see from this Twitter conversation, each time he was promised that someone would contact me. Hyatt’s follow-through was Not. One. Word. Grant used Twitter again. Nada. He even told them I had reviewed the gift boxes and wanted to review the next one. Nope, still no action to contact us.

What did I do while Grant was busy contacting the Hyatt Twitter team? I did manage to locate the company that sends out these boxes, but that lead didn’t pan out. After all, it is Hyatt’s promotion. And it is Hyatt who took our money.

It feels like the Try The World gift box idea failed, big time, and now Hyatt wants to sweep the whole experiment under the rug. We tried to find mention of the program online and it’s like it never existed. We can’t find a trace anywhere. I’m getting ready to call my credit card company and see about reversing the payment based on Hyatt’s non-fulfillment of the THREE boxes we paid for ($35 per box, for a total of $105). But first, I wanted to let you all know what’s been happening with this gift box program and find out if ANYONE else paid for the Try The World gift boxes and has had the same experience I’m having. Can I possibly be the only one who is at her wits’ end with Hyatt?

I think we are all sensing why Jeff left Hyatt. The WOH is a disaster, and I for one will most likely after 10 years not make top tier qual ( I HATE the word Globalist? There is just not enough of a footprint for many of us to achieve 60 nights, sure Marriott is 75 but they have the footprint where Hyatt does not.

It will be interesting to see first year results from Hyatt and how they spin it.

For me I have my Lifetime PLT with Marriott

Good points. True enough, I think lots of us won’t be able to make top tier going forward. Good to have status with Marriott, that’s for sure. Thanks for reading, and if you hear of any other folks on the short end of this promo, please let us know.

Like you, I paid for three boxes up front. I received a box highlighting Paris and one highlighting India but still waiting for that third box. Rather disappointing to hear that I might not ever get that third box. I agree that, though it’s ultimately minor, it’s yet another problem with Hyatt. As a former diamond for many years, I don’t anticipate giving Hyatt any further business.

Glad to hear you got your second box! I do hope you get your next box, too. It does seem like Hyatt is grasping at straws to see what they can do to get people back in the Hyatt loop. This promo isn’t working! Thanks for letting me know.

Based on your review, I signed up for the subscription. One month later and still no box. I received an e-mail a few weeks ago explaining the delay was due to moving their warehouse. Last week, i chatted with a rep online and was told they hoped the boxes would resume shipping this week. I tried chatting online again today, and there is no one there. Not looking good.

HI w2fly, Wow, what a mess Hyatt has created with this promo. Sorry to hear your news. Thanks so much for letting us know about your experience. I sure do hope they honor what they told you about re-starting their shipping . Please let us know if they contact you again. Looks like I’ll be asking for a refund.

If my recent experience on another matter tells me anything, be prepared to wait.

I failed to receive the promotional 10% back I was due for a 100k point redemption stay in the 8 weeks that was allotted…I called and was given a case number. Three days later, I called back and asked when they’d be getting to it. After a 10 minute hold, the phone agent at the desk told me she wasn’t sure when I’d be hearing back, so thankfully she applied the points manually.

14 days later, I received a response from customer service saying they see the matter is resolved. So a total of 17 days to hear from customer service. Definitely not the old Hyatt.

I remember that 10% back promo, James. Definitely not the old Hyatt in the way your situation was handled. And a good reminder that we all need to be checking our Hyatt accounts to make sure stays and points are posted properly. Thanks for reading and for sharing your experience.

We are still missing our 3 boxes as well. No email response back. I will continue to tell everyone not to do business with them.

I was a longtime direct subscriber of Try the World (not through Hyatt) and recently cancelled due to poor service. The company is apparently not paying its subscribers and many, many people have been left in the lurch. See their FB comments (order by Most Recent to get the full picture).

^^ I meant the company is not paying its *suppliers* — many of which are small family businesses that cannot afford to be stiffed.

Had dealings with Try the World and after trying for weeks to contact them found out they were recently sold. Can’t recall to who but sounded like the business suffered from growing too fast and couldn’t deliver on what they promised. Had to pack it in or sell.
