IHG Flash Sale: 100% Bonus on Purchased Points (Expires September 29)

It must be bonus season! IHG Rewards Club just announced a four-day flash sale on IHG points. The offer ends on September 29. I’m a new Chase IHG Rewards Credit Card holder, so these kinds of sales definitely get my attention. A 100% bonus on at least 5,000 points purchased… yes, thank you! You’ll recall that I got matched to the better Chase IHG Rewards Credit Card offer when I sent Chase a Secure Message (SM), and then got some great ideas from you all about which IHG properties to use my points at. I’m just about done meeting my minimum spending on that credit card. Between those points and flash sales on IHG points like this one, I’m all set to make next year an IHG one!

Here are the complete terms and conditions of the offer:

Offer available for purchases made between 12:00 AM ET September 26, 2017, and 11:59 PM September 29, 2017, inclusive. This is an exclusive, non-transferable offer for the intended recipient only and may not be forwarded. Bonus points will be awarded upon completion of the transaction. Bonus points will be awarded to the recipient of the points purchase. Offer is subject to change. Offer cannot be combined with any other offer. Only purchases made online are eligible for the bonus.

Price includes all applicable fees. Purchased points are not refundable and are applicable toward all IHG® Rewards Club awards. Members may purchase a maximum of 60,000 points per calendar year and receive as a gift a maximum of 60,000 points per calendar year. Please allow 72 hours for points to post and appear in the recipient’s account. All other IHG® Rewards Club Terms and Conditions apply.

Remember, if you are a Chase IHG Rewards Credit Card holder, you receive a 10% refund on IHG points used for your hotel award stays. That refund is up to 100,000 IHG points each year. And there’s those PointsBreak hotel deals that IHG offers where you can book hotels for 5,000 points a night. I’m looking forward to seeing some PointsBreak specials come along and seeing what destinations are offered. As always, these promos can be great deals with hotels in mind at destinations you’re traveling to. Some people take those great PointsBreak deals and plan a trip around a great hotel deal. I’ll have to try that sometime soon!

Are you a buyer of IHG points with a 100% bonus? Which IHG hotels do you have in mind these days? I’m always looking for suggestions!

Thanks for the heads up …

Between me and the missus, we have about 770K IHG points, and I am sure others have them in the millions! Other than redeeming them at some awesome SE Asia properties and the occasional worthy property on pointbreaks, there is hardly any value in these.

    Should we partake?

Good question, Kalboz. You have a healthy stash already, that’s for sure. General rule of thumb is to buy, but not speculatively, so see where you’re traveling this next year and plan accordingly. What’s been your favorite IHG hotel stay so far? Thanks for reading!

Indeed, not to buy speculatively. I’m sure many would mention London, Paris, or Singapore … Our favorite resort is the InterContinental Hua Hin which is located smack against sands of the Gulf of Siam. Last time we stayed there the rooms were for 35K IHG points. We booked 3 rooms and we did the same every other year. Their new wing is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kalboz/sets/72157667165632131

Their Club InterContinental has a seaview tables :)

Another awesome property is the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket located at Patong Beach which has two wings, one for families and the second for adults. Each has its own huge pool. Also 35K IHG per night which is a bargain. Centrally located and my wife loved the resort but hated the Patong Beach local. Further, the Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island is also a great bargain and located in the Andaman Sea.

Finally, the InterContinental Phnom Penh was on PointBreaks just last year (august-october 2016) and could been had for 5K points!!!

Wow, Kalboz, you are the IHG man, for sure. Great recommendations in 4 places I’ve never been. Thanks so much for these suggestions. I hope others see them, and as I did, add them to the IHG property wanna-go list. Have a great weekend!
