Good News! Google Project Fi DOES Work in Belize

As a frequent traveler, Google Project Fi (thanks for signing up via my link! We’ll both get $20) is my absolute favorite. I love being able to connect to cellular data networks when I’m traveling in over 135 countries! Before I traveled to Belize, I checked whether or not I would have coverage and was disappointed to find out that I would not have service in Belize.

So imagine my surprise when I landed at Belize City, Belize (BZE), switched my phone out of airplane mode, and connected to a cellular network! I had previously been with T-Mobile, which also offers good international data coverage. However, T-Mobile only offers roaming in some countries, so I wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t see additional charges on my bill.

I contacted a Google representative via chat. It took him a few minutes to look into what was going on, but he told me that Google Project Fi does, in fact, have a partner that at least offers coverage in Belize City (at the same $10/GB rate as everywhere else)! I’m writing this post from San Pedro, Belize (SPR) and I also have coverage here. I’m not sure how much of the rest of Belize has coverage with a Google Project Fi partner, but if you’re traveling to Belize and have Google Project Fi, you will at least have coverage in some parts of the country!

I would love to hear from other people who have used Google Fi in Belize (or at all!) to see if coverage is more widespread than just the two cities I tried it out in.

I had my Nexus 6p and my brothers Fi phone worked awesome in February 2018 in most of the mainland of Belize.(belmopan, Spanish lookout, Hopkins, placencia). Then I went home,(MI) reset my phone to factory new because it was getting so slow…again. I went back to Belize and it didn’t work any where. My wife and son came with 2 different Fi phones and noneof the 3 worked any more in Belize for March or April 2018. Sent lots of emails to support and nothing worked. We gave up. ANY IDEAS?

I am an American who lives in orange walk Belize. I came down with a tmo sim and it worked fine. I would love to get a project fi card but will need to wait a year to get one. If it works where tmo works than I know it works in Corazal town and Orange walk town.
