Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Iceland with Amazing Floating / Tumbling Iceberg Videos

Good morning everyone, happy Valentine’s Day ♥.  As I was working on my multi-part Central / South America trip report, I was reminiscing about another trip I took.  Last September, I did a roadtrip around Iceland and stopped at the amazing Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.  It is one of those places that you could spend hours watching nature and not get bored of its beauty.  I had such a great time there and took a ton of photos and videos (see my 5 YouTube videos at the bottom of this post).  I felt bad that the photos and videos were stuck on my iPhone and thought they deserved to be shared.  See here we go, here are the photos from my trip.

Getting to the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is easy, assuming you have a few days in Iceland and a car.  According to Google Maps, the drive is ~5 hours from Keflavik International Airport (KEF).  The drive is very scenic and you will see lots of mountains and coastline during the drive.

When you get there, you can walk up a small hill and take in the beautiful icebergs floating in the lagoon.  I was there in early September, so depending on the time of year (and season), your view may be much different (and colder).

You can walk down to the water and stare eye to eye at the beautiful floating icebergs.  Some of the smaller icebergs will wash up on shore and you can touch them and pick them up (they are much heavier than they look). For the record, I went to Iceland with my best friend, Rhianna, since my girlfriend, Laura, was teaching in school.

From the lagoon, you can walk along the shore and to the bridge.  I believe the bridge is 1 lane, so wait for the cars to stop crossing and you can walk across the bridge.  You can also get a great view from on top of the bridge.

On the other side of the lagoon, you can see icebergs washing out to the ocean.

On our side of the lagoon, you can walk around, climb on top, and touch the washed up icebergs.  It is kind of an eerie sight to see these huge icebergs washed up on the beach.

Last but not least, I spent about 30 minutes watching the icebergs crash into each other, break apart, and tumble out to sea.  Here is the first video that is 1:00 minute long.  This first video is kind of boring.

Here is the second video that is 1:05 minutes long and has a few big icebergs crashing into each other.

Here is the third video that is 3:21 minutes long.  There is a lot of action in this video.

Here is the fourth video that is 1:29 minutes long.  This black iceberg looks like something out of Star Wars.

Lastly, here is my fifth video that is 1:11 minutes long.

I hope you enjoyed those photos and videos.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great Valentine’s Day everyone!
