What is Visa Savings Edge and why Should you Care?

Do you like earning cash back on purchases you were planning on making anyways?  Who wouldn’t?  With Visa Savings Edge, you can enroll your Visa business credit/charge card and start earning cash back right away.  For most readers, your Chase Ink Bold/Plus Visa Credit/Charge Card is the go-to card.  To register and start earning cash back, click here.  Click the Get Started button to create an account.

Staples is the obvious choice among all the cash back merchants.  It is pretty simple, earn 1% cash back on all purchases of $200 or more at Staples Stores and online through the Staples website.  As long as you pay with your registered Visa business card and you charge more than $200 in one transaction, you will receive cash back.

According to the terms and conditions, the cash back will post as a statement credit to the credit/charge card that was used during the purchase.  Here is the small print of the cash back offer:

As you can see, my $206.95 Staples order (any guesses what that could be?) posted on 3/23 and I received my statement credit 2 days later on 3/25. Pretty fast Visa, I’m impressed!

Any idea whether this covers gift card purchases at Staples? With 5x points on Chase Ink and then another 1% off on the statement, buying gas station gift cards at Staples is even more attractive. (Plus, the gas station GC’s give me the “cash price” at the pump… saving another 7-cents a gallon.)

Found the text below in the full program T&C, but it still leaves some wiggle room as to which gift cards might or might not be covered when they say “such as certain gift cards”

“…payments made for pre-paid and re-loadable cards such as certain gift cards, Visa Buxx, and similar cards, payments made for payment instruments that can readily be converted to cash (for example, travelers cheques, money orders, wire transfers, and similar products or services), or transactions that are not processed or submitted through the Visa U.S.A. Inc. payment system are not Qualifying Purchases.”

I wouldn’t worry. Almost all programs and credit cards say gift card purchases are excluded but I have always earned miles/points/cash back on the purchase.
