Guayaquil, Ecuador to Irvine, CA in 16 Hours on 4 Flights

Greetings from Guayaquil, Ecuador!  I am on my way back from the Galapagos Islands and Guayaquil is the only city that flies to/from the Galapagos.  Currently, I am staying at the Sheraton Guayaquil Hotel (hotel review and pictures to come shortly) on cash and points (3,500 SPG points + $55 = 4.14 cpp).

GYE SPG

My 16 hour journey begins at 7am tomorrow morning, flies through Miami, Tampa, Phoenix, and lands in Orange County, CA (SNA) at 9pm tomorrow night.

4 Flights

In case you were wondering, Guayaquil is in the Central Time Zone and is 2 hours behind the Pacific Time Zone.

I have a lot of info and some beautiful pictures to share.  Stay tuned for more to come.

It depends how much time you have to spend here. The Sheraton is right next to a huge mall with lots of shops and restaurants. Yesterday, it seemed like everyone in Guayaquil was in there. Other than that, there is the Malecon which is a nice path along the water with restaurants and various shops.

What brought you to Ecuador, Grant? I am just returning today back to L.A. from 4 awesome days in Tampa, FL. Have to be back for the Dodgers game tonight. Did you see the amazing mountains in South America?

I’m actually in Tampa right now. Picking up my bag from AA and catching my SWA flight back to SNA. I was at the Galápagos Islands the last week, which is a part of Ecuador.

No way, my flight left out of Tampa at 11:15ET today. Wish we could have met up. Sounds like you have an amazing trip to Ecuador and the islands. After for days on Clearwarter beach, I am on a SWA flight back to LAX now, using their wifi to write. LOVE inflight wifi!!! I want to hear more about your time in Ecuador.

This is going to sound weird but how do I leaver a comment on the previous post (the one about you going to Ecuador)? There is no Leave Comment icon (Im using Firefox). Okay, no matter, I can leave a comment here.

The Galapagos is my next trip and I’m in the midst of planning it now. Can’t wait to hear your ship versus land tour reasoning (seems you did not do a ship-based tour) as well as your costs and pros/cons, etc. Hope you start that series soon!

In my wordpress settings, I disable comments on posts after 14 days. I used to get a ton of spam messages on old posts and it was very annoying. I figured the pros/cons of disabling comments was worth it, but I do get into this circumstance every now and then.

Anyways, I am the worst blogger regarding trip reports. I am so lazy/busy that I don’t get to them. I will do my best to start the series this weekend and make it a full time blog page (permanent links) at the top banner. My first post will probably be asking readers for questions so I know what to focus on first. Keep reminding me if I don’t post any GPS articles soon.
