Version 4 of the Vanilla Reload Card and Serve Card News

I wrote a very similar post a few months back called Vanilla Reload Card Grows Up.  Today, I am posting an update to that post.  Follow me on this flash back…

Version 1.0, originally found at Office Depot

VRC 1011 Front

On the back of the card, located on the right side under the Vanilla cone, is a code “1011v01.”  I think that codes means October 2011, version 1.  That might indicate that this card was manufactured in October 2011.

VRC 1011 Back

Version 2.0, found at Office Depot, but mainly CVS

VRC 912 Front

Code says “0912v01” which probably means created September 2012.

VRC 912 Back

Version 3.0, found at CVS on July 30, 2013

VRC 613 Front

Code says “0613v01” which probably means created June 2013.

VRC 613 Back

Version 4.0, found at CVS today (October 22, 2013)

There are a few new faces (logos) listed on the bottom half.  I have no info regarding the MasterCard rePower and Money Network cards, but I am sure Greg (Frequent Miler) will share his findings.

VRC Front V 813

Back View (note the small print)

VRC Back V 813

Code says “0813v01” which probably means created August 2013.  There is also a new line on the back that talks about a 13 month inactivity fee.  Not to worry, most VRCs I get are used within hours of purchase.  Not sure who buys these and doesn’t load them for 13+ months…

VRC Monthly Fee

As I was leaving CVS, I saw this posted attached to the beeps by the exit doors.  It is an ad for the American Express Serve Card touting no purchase price until December 31, 2013.  I am not sure what the “purchase price” is referring to, but I heard a rumor that you would be able to load your AMEX Serve Card with a credit card directly at CVS.  Stay tuned…

There is also a version without a scratch off pin and just a bar code. These can be found at Dollar General stores.

have you encounter any difficulty buying this new VR, any changes in Management rules ? on some CVS stores, shift supervisors are not aware of the 5k rule, is there a print out somewhere on the web so I can stick into their faces, they always insist its 1k.

At my local CVS store, only 1 cashier/manager is aware of the $5,000 rule. Everyone else insists on $1,000 per day. It’s just hit and miss. You don’t want to annoy any of them, so I usually settle for 2 cards at a time.

I was going to ask you about the black VR card – I’ve seen it at my CVS (in NC) for a short while, but I didn’t want to purchase it until I knew it would work. So any feedback on this??

The black card you saw is used as a debit card with VR as a funding source, you need to buy that card with a variable amount, up to $500 and then register online to get a permanent card in the mail.

I’ve never seen a black VRC. If you ever see a strange looking VRC, please email it to me or tweet me the pic. I’m always curious about VRCs.
