Random News: The New American (Airlines Credit Card from Citi) has Arrived, $60 Off Travelocity Hotels, $20 Off $25 Tabbed Out Bill, and 2 New AMEX Offers

Happy Friday morning everyone, here are a few random news stories for you.  A few days ago, Adam (Fly2Travel) shared a post about the new Citi American Airlines Credit Card redesign.  I love using my Citi American Airlines Executive Credit Card for lounge access and on-board shopping (25% rebate on food and drink purchases).  I called Citi and asked if they could send me a replacement card with the new design.  The representative was not sure what I was talking about (how could this be, I called the Citi AA Exec phone number?).  He didn’t really have a good answer, but said that if Citi redesigned the card, that all newly issued or newly replaced credit cards would have the new design.  He felt confident that I would get the new card design if I asked for a replacement card.  He thanked me for my loyalty to Citi and said he would FedEx the new credit card overnight.  I received the new credit card yesterday and it has no embossed letters or numbers and the credit card information is on the back of the credit card (the credit card number, expiration date, and CVV stayed the same).  I like that they added my AA number to the back of the card (previously missing from the old executive card), but I just noticed that the Admirals Club logo is missing on the new card (present on the old executive card to distinguish between primary card holders and authorized users, hmmm).

The old design has the Admirals Club logo on the back to differentiate the primary and authorized user cards…

If you are interested in the new design, you call call Citi and ask for a replacement card.  I have not had a chance to try my new card at an Admirals Club, but I will bring my old card just in cases any issues arise.

In other news, a reader forwarded an email to me that he received from Barclays.  If you have a Barclays Arrival Plus, you should be eligible to receive $60 off a $300+ Travelocity hotel reservation, using promo code GetAway60.  Must book by October 31, 2014.

Barclays Travelocity Promo $60 Off

Even though I do not have a Barclays Arrival Plus (or any Barclays credit card), I was able to enter the promo code and save $60 on my reservation.  I have not placed the reservation, so I am not 100% sure, but it could be worth a shot if you have any hotel reservations coming up soon.

I would also recommend going through an online shopping portal before you get to Travelocity.  According to Cash Back Monitor, there are several decent online shopping portals to choose from (link).

Also, a friendly reminder from Tabbed Out for Citi credit card holders.  You can get $20 off a $25 tab if you sign up with your Citi credit card and use your Citi credit card before November 29.  For more information about Tabbed Out, please read this post.

Lastly, here are 2 new AMEX Offers that I saw in my AMEX account:

Madewell AMEX Offer

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

I saw the 50K bonus mile offer for the Platinum AA Citi card at American Airlines website so I pulled the trigger last night. Instant approval and limit of $16,500. I have the gold AA Citi card already so I will ask for a replacement with the new design.

Congrats on the instant approval! I have 2 AA Exec Cards and a AA Platinum Card. I love the Platinum Card for the 10% rebate on AA miles, plus I can usually get a decent retention bonus on that card. Hopefully your new AA cards come soon.

You can login to your account–>Account management–>Order replacement card. Done deal! It will tell you that you are getting the new chip card. Super easy, took me 10 seconds, and didn’t have to talk to anyone!!

That works, but I think you get snail mail replacements, instead of FedEx overnight replacements. Let me know if you get the cards overnight by using the online card replacement features. Thanks Ryan and BG.

When I used the old style Citi AA Exec at the terminal C and D admirals clubs in Dallas they didn’t appear to even look at the card at all – they just swiped it and presumably the computer told them it was ok. The only time I used it in a former US Airways club, in Tampa, they looked at it briefly but needed my AA frequent flyer number to punch into their computer to do whatever they needed to do – I’m not sure they looked for the Admirals Club on the back either.

I go to the Admirals Club at my local airport and they all recognize me. I want to bring an authorized user card and test it out and see if they say anything.

Are all admirals clubs as pathetic as the one I visited in Nashville, TN? I don’t fly that often, but I have used the Air Canada maple leaf lounge at LGA and also the centurion lounge in LAS and they were both excellent. Food, drinks and great service. I was really looking forward to using my admirals membership a lot more, but if this is how their lounges are, I think I will avoid them.

I think every Admirals Club is different. The one at LAX is beautiful, but others are less impressive. I liked the Centurion Lounge at Las Vegas.

Hello Grant, I’ve just received this new car and it does have “Admirals’s Club” written about the WORLD ELITE words. However mine doesn’t have the AAdvantage number as yours, I’m concerned right now…Any tips?!

Hmm, you can call Citi and see if they have your AA account linked to your card. If they do, then you don’t need to worry. If not, then you might be in trouble. They need to link the card to the right AA account. After that is straightened out, you can request a new card with your AA account number on the back.

The new card is ugly. Called and the rep noted other similar comments. The two lines for name is odd at best. Old card continues… New card destroyed.

I am on my second attempt to get my gold card upgraded to the new design. They sent me the same old ugly one on the first replacement. Now I am waiting on another replacement. I am hoping they ran out of the old cards by now!

Some unrelated good news. I already have the Chase SP card and now Chase approved me for the United miles plus explorer card as well. Another 55K miles is on the way for United. Needless to say we are doing Europe part two later this year.

Citi is interesting sometimes. They don’t know about the new design of their credit cards. Congrats on the Chase United MileagePlus credit card.
