Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card

Chase Ritz-Carlton 140,000 Point Sign Up Bonus and Reconsideration Call Details

(Hat Tip to Doctor of Credit)

This morning, Chase increased the sign up bonus on the Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card (direct credit card link).  I just applied for the Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card this afternoon and wanted to share some information if you were thinking of applying as well.

  • Sign Up Bonus: 140,000 Ritz-Carlton points after spending $3,000 in 3 months.  Ritz-Carlton points can be redeemed at Ritz-Carlton and Marriott properties (more info below).
  • Annual Fee: $395, not waived (high price, but worth it, see perks below)
  • Perks:
    • 3 upgrade certificates on paid Ritz-Carlton stays
    • 10% bonus on points earned with the Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card
    • $100 hotel credit for paid stays
    • $300 annual travel credit
    • Priority Pass membership (free access for cardholder and one guest)
    • Gold Elite Status (first year) and every year you spend $10,000 with the credit card
    • Platinum Elite Status every year you spend $75,000 with the credit card

Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card Offer Details

Ritz-Carlton reward nights range from 30,000-70,000 points per night.  PointSaver reward nights range from 20,000-60,000 points per night.

Ritz-Carlton Reward Nights

You can also redeemed Ritz-Carlton points for stays at all Marriott properties.  Reward nights range from 7,500-45,000 points per night.  PointSaver reward nights range from 6,000-40,000 points per night.

Marriott Reward Nights

You can also redeem points for Marriott Air and Hotel packages.  Check out Frequent Miler’s post called Fly free with a companion for two years and get a free seven night stay.

I applied this afternoon and received a pending status (no surprise).  I called the Chase reconsideration department (888-245-0625) and was prepared to close some Chase personal cards or move some credit around to be approved.  After a few minutes on hold, the representative said that I was approved for a $5,000 credit line.  I love you Chase, you make my life so easy.

I logged off my Chase online account and logged back in to see if the card would show up in my online account.  No go.  I waited a few hours and checked back again.  Still no go.  I called the reconsideration number once more and asked a few questions.  The agent said that my application was approved, but that Chase was in the process of creating an account number and setting me up with a Ritz-Carlton account.  If you have a Ritz-Carlton account, you might have faster processing.  If you do not yet have a Ritz-Carlton account, you may want to sign up for an account before applying for the credit card.

Either way, the representative said that I should receive the credit card and welcome package in the next 1-2 weeks.  I really hope it comes sooner than 2 weeks so I can take advantage of the $300 annual travel credit in December and then again in January.  Here are my thoughts on the Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card perks:

  • 3 upgrade certificates on paid Ritz-Carlton stays – there is a very small chance that I will pay several hundred dollars for a night at a Ritz Carlton hotel.
  • 10% bonus on points earned with the Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card – I plan on meeting the minimum spend ($3,000) right away, so I will earn at least 300 bonus Ritz-Carlton points at the end of the year.  The following year, I will probably spend $10,000 on the card to keep Gold Elite Status, so I will earn another 1,000 bonus points at the end of that year.
  • $100 hotel credit for paid stays – there is a very small chance that I will pay several hundred dollars for a night at a Ritz Carlton hotel, but if I did, I would make sure to use the $100 hotel credit and upgrade certificate.
  • $300 annual travel credit – this perk alone pays for 76% of the $395 annual fee and I will do my best to max this perk out.  I plan on using the $300 credit in December and again sometime in January.
  • Priority Pass membership (free access for cardholder and one guest) – I really love Priority Pass for international airports, plus bringing one guest saves $29 (or more) per visit.  This is another reason not to renew my American Express Platinum Card.
  • Gold Elite Status (first year) and every year you spend $10,000 with the credit card – I believe this also gives you Marriott Gold Elite Status and spending $10,000 on the credit card will be pretty easy.
  • Platinum Elite Status every year you spend $75,000 with the credit card – no way am I spending $75,000 on this credit card.

I am excited to receive the credit card and to learn more about the credit card perks.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

Hey Grant, Chase will expedite any card for free and it’ll arrive in 1-2 days. All you need to do is ask! Thanks for the link, missed out on this last time and won’t be missing out again.

I asked both reps if there was any way to get the card any faster than 1-2 weeks and both times they said no. If anyone has had any success getting the card expedited, please let me know. Thank you!

Grant, how do you plan to use the $300 incidentals in such a short amount of time? I’m considering it, but I see some reports of gift cards not counting for the travel credit. If I knew gift cards counted, I’d pull the trigger on the card.

It seems like some airlines code gift cards differently than others, so there is no consistent approach. Here are the specific terms: Only the following types of non-ticket Net Purchases qualify for this offer: airline lounge day pass, or towards a yearly lounge membership of your choice; airline seat upgrades; airline baggage fees; in-flight internet/entertainment; in-flight meals; Global Entry fees.

Do you plan on trying to buy gift cards? Just curious of your approach. I just wish I had concrete and recent data points of what will be reimbursed even if it’s not on the T&C.

My original plan was to purchase airline gift cards and request the travel reimbursement. According to this FlyerTalk thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase-ultimate-rewards/1356263-expired-70k-fee-waived-140k-395-fee-ritz-carlton-rewards-credit-card-38.html):

          $300 Annual Travel Credit
“Make the most of your trip with a $300 annual travel credit to use for baggage fees, Global Entry fees, seat upgrades, access to your preferred airport lounge and more. Simply use your card for these expenses and call us at 1-855-896-2222, and we will refund the charges after your flight.”

          Reimbursed:
          AA Giftcards
          Southwest eGiftcards
          Delta Giftcards
$78 AA Award flight taxes reimbursed
$22 BA Award flight taxes reimbursed
~$150 AA award fees, taxes, fuel surcharge reimbursed
          United Flight Taxes
          Spirit Big Front Seats
          Spirit Onboard Food and Drinks

          Not Reimbursed:
          $315 Avianca ticket charge
          United giftcards

Congrats on getting approved! I also plan to apply. I have some questions:
    1. Regarding the $300 annual credit, how does it work actually? How do you plan to use it?

    2. If buy a gift card can trigger the credit, does it have to be any airline gc only or hotel gc? If so, where do we have to buy that gc to be eligible for $300 credit? Staples sells southwest gc but not sure it will count as eligible purchase for credit since the merchant will listed as Staples store.

    3. Are you planning to redeem it via Marriott Air and Hotel packages? It sounds like a good deal but how do you get extra Marriott points to make it 200k+ points to be able to access that package feature?

    Reply
    1. Grant

Very good questions Kimberly, I’m not exactly sure what will count toward the $300 travel credit. Since this card/sign up bonus were around a few months back, there should be some information about which purchases count and can be reimbursed. As far as I know, only airline purchases will count, no in-store purchases. I don’t really know what I am going to do with the points, my initial plan was to use them for Marriott hotels, but I have no plans yet. Good luck if you decide to apply for the card!

I called Ritz Rewards and it turns out you can just use your Marriott Rewards account number for the CC app and all points go to your Marriott Rewards account and all other benefits still apply as stated. FYI

Thank you Brant, I just called the Chase reconsideration department for a third time and they said I would have to wait until the Ritz-Carlton account number was generated and that I should call back on Thursday to have them change the Ritz-Carlton account number to my Marriott account number. So complicated!

This is a cool card. Its heavy, steel. Its probably one of the coolest cards I have aesthetically. The package they send you is like no other Ive seen… makes Amex Plat or the Citi Exec boxes seem shotty or uninspired. Cool card, I wish I got the 140k, but opted for the 70k , no annual a few months back.

Thinking about getting this card now. Here is my situation. I am getting married in late April in Maui (thanks Grant for suggesting which cards to get for my free trip) I wanted to stay at the Wailea Marriot resort and spa on one of my 5 nights there. I originally planned to book a night and pay using Cap 1 venture points. Was debating getting Marriot card until I read this post. Would you suggest getting this card instead and saving my Cap 1 venture points for car rental while in Maui and stay at Marriot using the Ritz points? My concern is that no rooms would be available 3 months from now at Marriot resort, again planning stay at marriot on April 25th. Suggestions?

    1. Grant

If you got this card now, met the minimum spending in the first month, you should have the 140k Marriott/Ritz-Carlton points by the end of January. I don’t think April is that busy for Maui, but there is no guarantee. You should be able to find room availability. I would go for it and hope it works out. Worst case, you can use the points for a future stay on your anniversary :)

Went ahead and pulled the trigger last night using freshly made Marriott account. Auto approved message said card would arrive in 7-10 days but confimation emsil said 2 weeks, we’ll see which is right. Question, do you know if points post when you hit spending minimum or will they post after the 3 months?

Congrats on the approval! Chase usually posts the sign up bonus on the statement in which you met the minimum spend requirement. I usually meet the limit in the first month and get the sign up bonus on the first statement.

Thanks, Grant. After reading your column,on Tuesday, Dec. 16th I shifted my Marriott Rewards to Ritz Carlton awards. I then applied for the Ritz Carlton credit card, suspecting that I would need to call the reconsideration line, since I already have 8 Chase cc (including biz). In the end they shifted credit from my Chase Hyatt card (which they noted that I hardly used). I asked for o/n shipping, and was told that Ritz Carlton had to assign a number, but that the lovely operator I spoke with, Asiza, would call me back on Thursday or Friday, to see about rushing the card after she has a number from Ritz Carlton.

How do get $900 with just one annual fees, I thought only $600: $300 this year & $300 next year.

By the way, if you try to get the Marriott package for one week at Marriott plus 100K SW or AA, you will get 100K right away or only after you stay at Marriott?

$300 this year, $300 next year and $300 in early 2016 because you can cancel chase card within 60 days of receiving annual fee and get it refunded.

    3. Brant

Amazing insight. I guess it’s time to bookmark Jan 2016 for a RC CC $395 fee refund after cancellation!! Great catch on this one!! I have never stayed at a RC and probably never will, but I am loving that place!!

I second Dan’s comment, it would be great if you could make a separate post on update about your strategy and getting a reimbursement for the $300 airline credit :)

By the way, will we get a physical Gold Elite membership card from Marriott? From my understanding and during my stay in Marriott, I always see people have their physical membership card, and also I read one of the benefit of being Gold member is :
“Get a 10% discount when you present your Elite membership card at participating Marriott-operated and managed gift shops.” So that’s mean more likely we will get a physical membership card, if so, how to get it, do we have to manually call and request it or they will automatically send it to us?

Have you been able to see your Ritz card on your Chase online account yet?

    Hi Grants,

Thanks for your help on this one. I applied last night and the application was pending then I called the reconsideration line. They sent me over the specialist but they closed. I got the direct line to specialist 1-800-527-7415 this morning. I got approved by moving money from other SW account which they gave me too much.

Thanks everyone. Now I have few questions:

    1. Do I have to wait couple days to ask them for expedite my cc?

    2. $300 automatic deduct from your statement or you have to call?

    3. The package from Marriott which including 7 days stay at Marriott hotel and miles from many airlines, do I get the miles right away after I book or after I stay at the hotel.

    1. Grant

You might want to give them a call and ask if they will expedite your new Ritz-Carlton Credit Card, otherwise, they will send it out via USPS First Class Mail, which might take 1-2 weeks to arrive. To get the reimbursement, you can call Chase or send them a Secure Message online. If you redeem points for a Flights and Hotel package, you will get the miles in a few days after redeeming your points, not after you stay at the hotel.

Yeah, I was also wondering if you were able to get expedited shipping for the card without the card number being generated? I applied and got approved today through reconsideration, but when I asked them to overnight the card, they said they aren’t able to since the number isn’t generated yet.

          2. Hoang

Still do not see account online. I just wonder 24-48 hrs including weekend? If I get account number on Monday, what chance I will get the card by Wednesday assume I can request for overnight delivery?

          3. Hoang

While waiting for UPS delivers my new card, I just wonder anyone did success getting reimbursement from Chase by buying SW or AA GC?

            Thank you

          4. DavidNJ

I just got off the phone w/ Chase and was given credit for a $25 Southwest e-giftcard. Also had some AA taxes for 2 round trip fights which I was also given credit. I’m going to buy some Southwest e-giftcards today to make up the remainder of the $300 reimbursement.

          5. Hoang

Got the card, wow the whole package looks fancy, I thought someone gives me a tablet. Bought $150 e-GC SW. Let you know how it works out.

          6. Hoang

            Eli,

In the list United GC was not eligible so may be the same as Alaska GC? By the way send the secure message may be better.since we may not have to say much.

      1. David

Do you know where we can buy a physical AA gift cards without shipping fee and still eligible for reimbursement? since e-giftcards is risky, some report says Chase won’t waive the e-gc but physical gc is ok.
I went to AA.com (http://www.aa.com/i18n/productsGifts/giftCard.jsp?anchorLocation=DirectURL&title=giftcards) and it charge a shipping fee of ($4.95 USD) per order. So if we have to buy 3 giftcards to keep the amount below $100, let’s say $75, $75, and $50 into separate order, then we have to pay total shipping fee of $14.85. Any better ideas or workaround for this?

Just received a call from Chase that my card will arrive today. I will take your advice Grant, and buy an egift card for $25 to see if I get reimbursed.

  17. Adam

Grant/DavidNJ, so you plan to buy several $25 e-gift cards? That’s gonna be 12 transactions of e-gc in order to maximize the $300 reimbursement, do you think chase will not get suspicious when they see that?

I would buy 1 $25 AA eGC and see if you can get that purchase reimbursed. If so, then I would buy a larger AA eGC and try to get that reimbursed as well.

Any update on the gift card reimbursements? I was on the phone with Chase Fraud after activation and the person specifically knew that I had tried to purchase an Alaska Airlines $50.00 Gift Card. The charge was declined but I was surprised she knew what it was. I’ve done the same with AMEX Platinum and it does not list it as a gift card in posted transactions and they have been reimbursed. As a side note … does anyone know if the 3 Club upgrades that come w/ the card is good @ Marriott hotels, or only Ritzs-Carlton?

I ended up calling them after a $95 SWeGC & $50 SWeGC charge. Told them it was for a pet fee and 4 EarlyBird Check-Ins. Call was quick and reimbursed in 2 days.

Then just duplicated the same charges to wrap up the 2014 credit.

    Grant,
Thanks for all the advice. I applied on Christmas Eve when all offices were closed.. My application needed further review. Per your suggestion I caled the recon line today and took $5000 credit from CSP card and they approved me for a $10,00 limit. I never put in a Ritz Carlton number because I have a Marriott number. Will I be able to transfer the miles?
    Thanks for the good suggestions!

Great website and discussion. First time I’ve been here; will bookmark!

            1) What would have been the benefit of adding Marriot # at the time of application?

            2) Id like to get my points ASAP so I can make a booking for mid March while the hotel still has availability. Does anyone have experience with asking for the statement date to be changed to a sooner date to accelerate bonus points? I’ve searched online and saw some people report success, but others who stated it backfired and it resulted in a delay? Then others who said that spending in last 7-10 days of cycle might not trigger bonus points for current statement?

            Thanks for all the info

Got approved in Thursday…just called (sat morning ; still waiting for number to be generated so then I can request overnight shipping)

Hopefully will have card by in time to get the $300 statement credit airline for this year

Good morning, the benefit of entering your Marriott account number is that your Marriott and Ritz-Carlton points would go to the same account, you won’t have 2 separate accounts. When you get your card in the mail, you can call to activate the card and ask the change the bill due date to the first of the month. I hope your card arrives soon so you can receive your $300 airline reimbursement. Have a great weekend!

Happy New Year everyone and best wishes to everyone. I got the reimbursement for the 1st SW e-GC $150 and waiting for the second one. I sent the simple secured message just saying $150 SW travel incidents charge.

I have a question about reimbursement for Global Entry fees, is it just for me or my wife too? I plan to use it for this year 2015.

Another question regarding Gold status, is it worth it since we need to spend $10000 (or $7000 extra). If I spend $10K this year will I get Gold status for 2016?

    Thank you

I’m not sure the $100 Global Entry fee can be reimbursed more than once, in consecutive years. I would call AMEX first to double check.

I’m not sure if Ritz-Carlton Gold Elite status is worth the extra $7000 in MS. Depends how many stays you have at Ritz-Carlton or Marriott properties.

Sorry Hoang, it looks like you are in luck with the Ritz-Carlton credit card: “Only the following types of non-ticket purchases qualify for this offer: airline lounge day pass, or towards a yearly lounge membership of your choice; airline seat upgrades; airline baggage fees; in-flight internet/entertainment; in-flight meals; Global Entry fees.”

Yes they reimburse Global Entry fees but not sure just one time for myself or for other person like my wife. I will sent them an email.

Happy new year to everyone too. I did apply for the card too on 22nd and got the card in 29th. Then I purchased a $300 SW egiftcard, and finally the transaction posted exactly on 31st. So, Grant, how should I send a message to Chase (how to explain what the charge is for?)? Any suggestion would be appreciated. If successful, the reimbursement should be for calendar year 2014, right? Thank you.

I worded my request for reimbursement for my $300 AA gIft card as follows:

This is the response I received. As promised, I received the $300 reimbursement shortly thereafter.

If I don’t use the $300 for seat upgrades, I’ll buy another AA gift card in 2015. I’m still debating whether to keep the card, since a $10,000 spend will give me gold status for both Marriott and RC.
