Staples Easy Rebate: $20 Visa Gift Card on $300 Visa Gift Card Purchase (Jan 4-10)

Good morning everyone, happy New Year!  Let’s start 2015 off right with this Staples Easy Rebate.  Receive a $20 Visa Gift Card after purchasing $300 or more in Visa Gift Cards at Staples between January 4 and 10.  Remember to wait until Sunday to purchase these gift cards.

$20 Visa Gift Card $300 Staples Visa Gift Cards

I checked on Visa Savings Edge to see if Staples was still there, but I am sad to report that Staples is no longer on Visa Savings Edge.  I will miss you 1% cash back!

In other news, today is the start of Chase Freedom’s Q1 5% cash back categories.  I plan on going to the grocery store and buying a few $500 gift cards, then taking those gift cards to Target to load my Redbird Card.

If you have a question, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

Thanks Grant for the great news. Two Questions:

    1. Can we apply for rebate under my name and my wife’s name for the same address ?
    2. My wife and I had purchased gift cards from Staples last month, under the same rebate offer, can we still utilize this offer?

Good morning Anil, usually the offer is 1 per household, even if you use different names. If you have friends or relatives you can trust, you can send the rebate to their address. Almost every week, Staples releases new Easy Rebates, so if you got in last week (or prior weeks), you can get in on this Easy Rebate.

Not sure if using the same name on each rebate is going to work even with different addresses. Maybe someone has tried. I usually do 4 at a time, different names and different addresses.

Are you serious? If you are in the branch opening an account anyway, then fine. I smell ad here. Most banks entice you with this or more.

Thanks for the reminders i’m going to head out today and max out my 2 Freedom cards and my wives Freedom card with my Redbird. My local Target is coded as a grocery store so I can avoid the middle man and the gift card activation cost. I was very happy when I checked visa supplier locator and found it was indeed coded as a grocery store – so many juicy opportunities!! :-) Keep up the good work and happy new year to you!

Be careful going straight to Target. On the Chase Freedom page explicitly excludes Target stores as a grocery store. I would play it safe and buy GCs from a regular grocery store. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the heads up on that and you are correct I see it does say it excludes walmart and target stores. However, if a particular Target is coded as a grocery store i’m confident that the points will post. But your point is well taken so I will do a test run this month and if it works max everything out in Feb. I will let you know what happens.

I think Chase added that because they know most Target stores are coded as grocery stores and they don’t want to encourage people shopping at Target, so I would be surprised if your Target purchase counted. Let me know what you find out. Happy new year!

Redbird is a big part of my 2015 plan. I have 4 redbird cards and will be taking advantage of target being coded as a grocery store. I even converted my citi dividend to citi’s 2% cash back card. I have a couple other cards that give cash back at grocery stores and will be spreading out my MS on them. I think I will be switching over one of my redcards to Serve softcard to take advantage of their Offers and get an extra $1500 to MS. Thanks for the Freedom 5% reminder, had totally forgotten about it. Happy New Year everyone ! ! ! !

I almost forgot to ask, can I load GC to Serve using the Walmart kiosk machine like you could with Bluebird? If I load at kiosk do I use the bluebird icon on screen or something else?

I have 3 Serve Cards and 1 Redbird Card. Wish I had all 4 Redbird Cards since I have grown annoyed of Walmart and much rather visit Target. Go wild with the Chase Freedom cash back categories :)

Great post, will swing by Staples to take advantage tomorrow. Btw, how do you get 3 serve cards and a redbird? Willing family members?

Hi Grant, thanks for the heads up!
By the way, this is unrelated but appreciate it if you could please help.
How did you manage to get a hold of RC(RedCard) since you are residing in CA? I am also in CA and would like to get a hold of RC.
RC are only sold at Target stores mostly in East Coast as far as I know. And you can ask someone you know there to buy and send you the RC but you have to give them your SSN, which is risky.
Also I saw some people are selling RC on eBay, do you think it’s safe if I buy it from there to get a hold of RC? since it’s a temp card but I have to request the permanent card with my SSN, will the seller be able to see my personal info later on?
Also, do you have any trouble to load your CC into RC in Target stores around Walnut Creek area? I wonder if it will raise a flag since RC is not available in CA yet and suddenly people pop up and load big amount ($500-1000) into RC. What do you tell the cashier if they question you on the huge load amount into RC?

Those are all very good questions. A friend of mine from Denver bought a temporary Redbird Card and sent it to me. I was able to register with my SSN and my address. I have a few other friends who have bought them on eBay, everything should be fine. When you registered your permanent Redbird card, it will be linked to your SSN and your address. I have not had any problems loading at Target stores in California. If they ask you, just tell them you are testing out a new product that Target is rolling out nationwide.

Thanks Grant, you’re lucky to have a trusted friend live in East Coast. I will try the eBay path and let you know the update.
But how do you get multiple Redbirds? from what I know, Amex only allow 1 per person.

Whenever I say I have more than 1 Serve Card or Redbird Card, that just means I have cards in other people’s names (relatives). You are correct, you can only have one card per SSN.

Most Staples stores do except credit cards, but it’s up to the individual stores whether they will let you use credit cards to buy gift cards. Most stores will let you without any problem.

I may have stumbled onto a gold mine. $100 staples GC for 90.00 plus 0.59 tax. I can purchase a maximum of 5 $100 GC/day totaling $500 for 452.95. This is not thru staples.com so will be using 2% back card for puchase. I have 3 redbird cards, one bluebird, and likely will be converting one of the redbirds to Serve Softcard. I have never dealt with staples GC so noob in that department, mainly buy GC from grocery stores.

        Questions:
        1. Is this a great deal or am I missing something?
2… what’s the best way to get rid of staples GC? Redbird Bluebird or Serve?
3… Off subject question. Where can I buy Paypal my cash cards with CC? Can I buy at CVS or grocery stores? Ive never dealt with ppmcc but just ordered paypal business debit card.

Are you referring to Staples gift cards or Visa gift cards from Staples? Most Staples *will not* let you use Staples gift cards to buy any other gift cards.

If you have $100 Visa gift cards, you can load them to Redbird (Target) or Bluebird/Serve (Walmart). Which store would you rather go to? I have better luck at Target than Walmart.

You can buy PPMCCs at CVS and Walgreens with a credit card. Of course, each store can either accept credit cards or not, just depends on the store/cashier.

Unfortunately they are Staples GC. Rats, knew it was too good to be true. Oh well. Never had luck buying GC at Walgreens with CC but my CVS takes CC for one vanilla cards so hopefully they will take for PPMCC. I hope it’s not hard coded to system like vanilla reloads are.

I have never had my credit card rejected at the POS buying PPMCCs at CVS or Walgreens. Either the cashier will allow it or not. The charge always goes through though. Good luck!

    Hi Grant,

Thanks for the Staples info. I went to Staples, and the largest visa giftcard denomination was $200. The manager said I could buy 2 of those (each with a $6.95 activation fee). I then asked about receiving the $20 giftcard, and the manager said that he thought it was a rebate by mail.

I’m seasoned signing up for credit cards and getting bonus points, but am new at trying to pay bills through redibird/evolve etc… Appreciate the help!

It’s in their weekly ad on staples.com. This deal should be available at all or most Staples. You can pick your location on the site and see if the ad for the deal appears for your store. You can search the ad as well, put in gift card or visa, etc
