How to Find Hidden eBay Gift Cards in your PayPal Account

Good afternoon everyone, I buy a lot of items on Ebay and use a lot of Ebay gift cards to pay for those items.  With Frequent Miler’s recent post regarding Ebay gift cards and Doctor of Credit’s recent post about Ebay shopping portals, I thought it would be a good idea to show you where to find your unused Ebay gift cards.  I will show you where to look when you log into your PayPal account from a desktop computer and from the Ebay app on your smartphone.

Log into your PayPal account from your desktop computer and click the Wallet tab at the top of the screen.

PayPal Account Home Page

Then scroll way down to the bottom of the Wallet page until you see your unused Ebay gift cards.  Your PayPal Wallet will only show you Ebay gift cards that have a positive balance,

Clicking on each Ebay gift card will show you the redemption code.  You can copy that number when you checkout through Ebay.

With the old PayPal website, you could view all your Ebay gift cards (both active and depleted).  I found the link to that old page here.  This page isn’t very useful, unless you need to see if your Ebay gift cards are all depleted.

All Old Ebay Gift Cards

Here are the steps to show you how to find and use your Ebay gift cards from the Ebay smartphone app.  These screenshots are from an iPhone, but the process should be the same with Android and Windows 7 phones (use the left and right arrow keys to view all images).

I think it is easier to checkout from the Ebay app if you have multiple Ebay gift cards you want to redeem.  If you have any questions about Ebay gift cards, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

P.S. If you plan on buying anything on Ebay, please click my Ebay affiliate link (Ebay logo) on my right sidebar near the top of my blog.  Thank you for your support!

P.P.S I have a few other Ebay posts that you might be interested in as well:

Thanks for this post! How do you add eBay GCs to the wallet in the first place? I got some from the promotion last month and it’s just been sitting in my email…not the best place for it. ;)

The only way that I know of is to buy something on Ebay and to enter the Ebay GC during checkout. PayPal will save any gift cards with a remaining balance.

Kind of silly of Paypal/eBay to hide your gift cards and make you hunt for them to use them. It’s almost like they don’t want you to use them.

Thanks a lot! These idiots at ebay hardly know anything. I used to have plenty of unused cards and now they dont even show up in the Wallet page. But thanks to your “old link” I can see them there.

A few, I knew for sure they were there. And given the fees they charge, their customer service is totally useless. Twice I called to inquire and twice they transferred me back to eBay. Useless bunch of idiots except when it comes to charging fees..

Do you know of a way to add the eBay gift cards to a paypal account. I am not asking for ease of use which we have seen isnt there :) . My worry is that I have a bunch of unused cards and I will feel a bit of assurance if they were linked to my PP account

    thanks again for your post!

This trick doesn’t work anymore. Redeemed several ebay gift cards that had leftover balances after a purchase. I don’t see these cards in my paypal wallet. Might have something to do with the upcoming spinoff of paypal from ebay.

Hmm, that is disappointing. I don’t like PayPal much these days so I hope I can use other payment providers to sell things on eBay.

Try using the “old” link that Grant posted — I couldn’t see any cards in my wallet but going straight to the “old” interface via the URL he provided worked perfectly. Much apprecaited!

Thanks Grant for the detailed write up. Looks like they changed things again. Using the “old” link, I can see a list of the old redemption codes, but clicking on the redemption code numbers just links to the T&C. Hitting “Details” results in the following error:

“Sorry — your last action could not be completed”

    for all codes… sigh…

thanks. I will able to find old ones. I want to use several smaller ones, then 1 large one, but it only take the large one to cover the whole thing.
Also I have a problem reading one of the redemption code, the sticking thing rid off the code with it. I got this a few weeks back, and don’t have the receipt now. (from Safeway). What can I do?

If there’s a phone number listed on the gift card, you can try calling that number and seeing if they can help you. Worst case scenario, you can try guessing the missing digits and see if any of those combinations work. Best of luck.

    Hi Grant,
The other day I purchased a Paypal cash card from CVS with my credit card; usually it will show up on my credit card transaction as purchase, but this time it showed up as cash advance. You know anything about this new change?

I had $60 hiding! Thanks for the link. I don’t have any in my wallet but I think I should. Not sure what’s going on there. This might be obvious to everyone but I call the number on plastic cards to check my digital card balance because I could never figure it out online.

Hey Grant, do you know if I have a balance in my paypal account, will I be able to use my ebay gift cards to pay without touching that paypal balance? I remember that being true in the past, but not sure about now? Thanks.

Unfortunately, the new paypal system is not showing new gift cards. I guess they realized they were giving up too many crumbs by tracking it for us. Oh well, I need to add a new system to track all of these. Simple enough.

Returned an item that I used multiple eBay gifts cards to purchase and actually tossed the cards. Paypal refund transaction for amounts credited to eBay gift card and shows a 16 digit code alpha/numeric for the gift card, any direction as to how to use this for a purchase on ebay would be appreciated. Thanks

Hmm, can you go and find your original PayPal payment (either from your PayPal account or PayPal email) that shows the gift card codes?

Same situation here, no gift card codes in transaction details, only 16 digit alpha-numeric code. Any ideas on how to decipher it?
