Evolve Money Update: Pay All Bills with Visa, MasterCard, and Discover Credit Cards (3% Fee Applies)

Good morning everyone, Evolve Money sent out an email update this morning regarding changes to their bill pay feature.  In recent months, Evolve Money let you pay all bills with Discover credit cards (link), then a month later, Evolve Money evolved changed and would only let you pay certain bills with a Discover credit card (link).  Today, Evolve Money will let you pay any bill with a Discover credit card, but they added a 3% bill pay fee.  In the process of checking out Evolve Money, I discovered that you could also add Visa and MasterCard credit cards and pay any bills, but the same 3% bill pay fee still applies.

Evolve money Update 2-1-2015

I was able to add a Visa and MasterCard credit card to my account.  Adding my PayPal Business Debit Card showed up as a credit card below.

Evolve Money Pay Visa MasterCard Credit Cards

Here is what paying your bill with a credit card will look like.  A $999 bill payment will cost an extra $29.97 (3% of $999).  Definitely not worth the price to use a Discover credit card.

I haven’t tried to use a Visa or MasterCard gift card lately, but I hope there is no fee to use those gift cards to pay bills on Evolve Money.  The only reason I would pay the credit card bill pay fee on Evolve Money is if I were working toward a minimum spend on a Visa or MasterCard credit cards.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

So I take it that One Vanilla Reload still work with Evolve? I rather buy that one with cc even with $4.95 fee for $500 activation that’s only 1%

I paid my gas and electric bills (two separate companies) on Saturday with a gift card and there was no fee. Of course that was before this new notice came out. When I logged in to Evolve today, it prompted me to accept the new terms of service, which state that for most debit cards (which my gift card transaction on Saturday was classified as – DEBIT: Visa Card) there is no fee. So hopefully going forward gift cards will still have no fees.

Thanks for the update Greg, there was a very lengthy TOS to agree to. I won’t be surprised if the next Evolve Money update adds bill pay fees to Visa/MasterCard gift cards. It is just a matter of time.

So if I have a bunch of $200 staples visa gift cards, what would be a good way to use these through Evolve? Could I use multiple $200 VGCs to pay down a credit card bill for example?

    Anyone have experience with this?

You will only be able to use one VGC per biller per month on Evolve Money. You can only pay store credit cards, no credit cards from any major banks are supported on Evolve Money.

My Citi TY Pref card gets 3x TYP for every purchase following my talk to the retention dept. it makes sense to me to pay my mortgage and car payments with this card. An easy way to buy 1 TYP for $0.01. I’m not clear from reading the terms if we are still limited to $999 per payment. Also, I want to make sure Citi doesn’t charge CA fees for Evolve.

I believe the monthly limit is still $999/biller. Since Evolve Money is charging a 3% bill pay fee, they are running your credit card as a purchase, so you will earn Citi Thank You Points.

Is the 3% included in that $999/biller/month? So, if my bill is $990, am I’m SOL because the total charged would be $1019.70 after the fee?

You can pay a biller up to $999/month. If you use a credit card, you will be charged a 3% fee, bringing your total over $999. Based on my screenshot, it is possible to go over $999 if you pay the fee, so you should have no problem paying your $990 bill.

Evolvemoney says most major debit cards are free of fees. Has anyone tried the UFBDirect debit card? Is it free?
