New AMEX Offers: ShopRite (Stackable), Hampton by Hilton, Instacart & More

Good morning everyone.  American Express released a few more AMEX Offers since Monday (19 New AMEX Offers: Amazon, Uber, Toys R Us / Babies R Us & More).  The most interesting offer is for ShopRite: $20 off $75.  That is pretty good on its own, but Frequent Miler reported that you can get $20 in Free Groceries with a $100 Gift Card Purchase at ShopRite.  If you use your enrolled AMEX credit card to buy $100 in gift cards at ShopRite, you will get a $20 statement credit and $20 in free groceries.  40% off is not too shabby, right?

The other good offer is for Hampton by Hilton: $35 off $175.  You might be able to purchase a gift card from Hampton for use at other Hilton hotels.

Last but not least, here are the 3 other AMEX Offers:

  • Instacart: $15 off $75
  • Orvis: $10 off $50
  • Steve’s Blinds & Wallpaper: $40 off $200

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

I didn’t see any mention of caution about the ShopRite gift card purchase. The $20 in groceries with the $100 gift card purchase is clear enough. But read the fine print on the AMEX offer: If you only buy gift cards, you don’t qualify for the offer. Therefore, if your purchase is only a $100 gift card you will NOT get the $20 back from AMEX. Do as you please, but I’m not taking that risk.

Thank you for the reminder. I have a hard time believing that Amex and ShopRite will enforce that policy when most other Amex offers have the same no GC terms and still work with GC purchases.

I understand your logic. I am only thinking in terms of the recent DISCOVER posts stating cardholders were notified they were receiving only one courtesy adjustment for purchased gift cards, and that going forward DISC wasn’t giving a rebate on those. With millions of transactions per day, is it likely a bank could spot gift card purchases? And what exactly does AMEX mean in the disclosure in your post above about gift cards being mixed in with “other items”? There is no value specified. 2 packs of gum with that $500 gift card? Yeesh, this is riskier for us point chasers and sure isn’t as much fun anymore.

Just more hoops to jump through and the end goal is not as fun/easy to attain. I tried to purchase a $100 ShopRite gift card online but the checkout page only uses PayPal and I didn’t want to test it out.

Guess if you do all your shopping at ShopRite you don’t get the ShopRite offer. I do $40k a month in GCs at our local ShopRite and don’t see the ShopRite offer on any of my AmEx cards.

Makes sense from a marketing standpoint; no reason to spend money to entice someone who’s already coming into your store on a near-daily basis.

Weird. Their “big data” is smart enough to know how much I spend at ShopRite… but not smart enough to notice your zip code is 3,000mi from the nearest store. (Too bad, since our local high school Booster Club card gives $1 off every $100 spent at SR. Brings $500 GC cost down to 95 cents… and there’s a WM with an always working Kate a mile away.)

Used to be even better… several local SR’s accepted credit cards for money orders up until a year or so ago. With our original “old AmEx Blue” unlimited 5% card it was like buying $50 bills for 99-cents. My kids used to call the grocery store “the mint” :-)
