Hotel Review: Radisson Blu Royal Dublin (Free Breakfast for Gold Members)

Good morning everyone, here is the last hotel review from my 2 week Eurotrip.  I will create a master post with all the links to my hotel reviews, planning, and sites.  I stayed 3 nights at the Radisson Blu Royal Dublin.  For the first night, I used my Club Carlson Global Free Night Certificate and then I used 44,000 Club Carlson points to book a BOGO (aka Last Night Free) stay for the last 2 nights.  Getting to the hotel from Dublin Airport is pretty simple (Google Maps).  I paid €12 for a round trip bus ticket (Aircoach Bus 700) to Trinity College.  Then I walked for 12-15 minutes to get to the Radisson Blu Royal Dublin hotel.

The hotel is not in a very “touristy” area, but there are several very good restaurants and bars within a 5 minute walk.  Here are some pics of the lobby and bunny rabbits behind glass.  At check-in, I was upgraded to a Business Class room on the second floor which included free breakfast for all 3 days.  I am Club Carlson Gold (from having the US Bank Club Carlson Personal Credit Card) and I believe getting upgraded to the Business Class room was the key to getting free breakfast.  My wish of getting free breakfast at a Radisson Blu hotel finally came true!

Here are some pics from inside the room.  Near the front door, there is a large closet with a safe and mini fridge on the far right hand side.

The bathroom had a bath tub and a shower.  The shower was excellent with a handheld shower head.  The water pressure and temperature were great.

The bed was made of 2 twin beds pushed together.  Each side of the bed had their own comforter which was very warm.  In the corner of the room, there was a chair and large ottoman.

We received a welcome gift 2 out of 3 days.  The fresh fruit and snacks were delicious.

The best part of the hotel was the breakfast.  The dining area was very large and had 3 huge tables full of various breakfast foods, 2 large toasters, and an omelet bar.  We ate breakfast all 3 days and really enjoyed the food.  I don’t know how much breakfast would cost for someone without free access, but I think €15-20 would be a good guess.

For our first day in Dublin, we walked to the Guinness Storehouse at St. James Gate.  The walk from the hotel took about 15-20 minutes and can be quite windy.  Look up directions on Google Maps before you leave the hotel.  If you get lost, ask a local and I’m sure they can direct you.

For our second day, we went on a guided tour around Dublin Castle.  Here is a view from the garden/helipad behind the castle.

Last but not least, 2 of my travel hacker friends (Daniel and Evan) were in town (one was working in Dublin and the other was on a mileage run through Dublin and London).  We hung out in the afternoon and grabbed lunch near the Temple Bar.  Great times had by all in Dublin.

I’m also Gold, I didn’t get upgraded when I stayed there but I did get free breakfast. It’s an awesome spread!

Nice and timely review. My wife and I are staying there for 2 nights in early March. I don’t care about the room upgrade so much but it would be nice to get the free breakfast for sure.

I originally had a booking here this past November, but we added two to our reservation and this particular Blu had no family rooms. Instead, we ended up booking at the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel Dublin south of the city. It is definitely out of the way, but the grounds and facilities are absolutely stunning.

They did not include breakfast in the stay, but did give a great welcome amenity of a fruit basket!

I was also considering that Radisson Blu property, but like you said, it is not close to the city center. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and welcome amenity :)
