My Upcoming Long Presidents Day Weekend in Cabo San Lucas (+ your Restaurant & Activity Recommendations)

Good morning everyone, I am heading down to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico tomorrow for a long Presidents Day Weekend.  A few months ago, I wrote Redeem Virgin Atlantic Miles for Virgin America Award Flights (Complete Route Network from SFO).  In that post, I showed how it was possible (at the time) to redeem Virgin Atlantic miles for travel on Virgin America (this partnership is no longer possible since Alaska Airlines is acquiring Virgin America).  Long story short, I redeemed 25,000 Virgin Atlantic miles for a round trip Virgin America flight from SFO to SJD (Cabo).  This will be my second trip to Cabo and I wrote about my first trip in these posts:

During my first visit, I stayed at the beautiful Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort and loved the property.  Here is a view from my room that overlooked the pool and beach.

Unfortunately, shortly after my stay, Hurricane Odile came through and hit Cabo and Baja California really hard.  Check out the link above for more photos, but long story short, the resort was hit hard, palm trees were torn down, windows were smashed, power outages and flooding around the property.  After I heard about the hurricane and saw the photos, I vowed to return to Cabo as soon as possible.  I really wanted to stay at the Hilton again, but the price (points and all cash) were much higher than before, so I decided to stay at another hotel.

Anyway, since I will be in Cabo for almost 5 days, I am looking for restaurant and activity recommendations.  We are not staying at an all inclusive resort so we need to figure out what to do.  Last time I was in Cabo, my brother and I did an ATV tour and loved it, so extreme sports are always appreciated.

Thank you for your help and have a great day everyone!

Finished up a new year’s week at the Hilton. If you ever tire of Mexican cuisine, and can’t make up your mind what you want, there’s a new upscale food court about 1.5 miles from the Hilton towards San Jose called El Merkado – with pretty reasonable prices, We liked the upstairs Tapas place & BBQ the best. They also have Italian, oyster bar, specialty dogs, craft beer, and several others we didn’t try. Also had good eats at Sardina Cantina near the Hyatt Place, and El Toro Guero for Shrimp in San Jose proper.

The hot new excursion is a swim with a whale shark – much more whale than shark- didn’t do it, but heard peeps raving about it. And you’re hitting peak whale watch season as well. Also, if the tour company charges in American dollars, and you charge it to your room (which some hotels allow), the hotel may convert to pesos at an unfavorable rate.

Hi James, thank you for the recommendations. I’m not sure about swimming with whale sharks, but whale watching sounds good too. Lots of dinner recommendations. The only place I remember going to last time was Cabo Wabo Cantina. We will probably go back again this time too.

I’m at the Hilton this weekend, I noticed that if I booked day by day it dropped to around $300 vs multi night booking.
I also saw prices on Priceline and getsnaptravel.com of around ~$220 a night. The 4* with reviews 9+ in Corridor north is the Hilton.

Baja Brewing was a nice place to grab some locally brewed beer. The staff was super friendly, and we had a pretty decent margarita flatbread.
