New Alaska Airlines MVP Gold / 75K Elite Members Should Have 4 Guest Upgrades (Expiring 12/31/2018)

Good morning everyone, happy Friday.  A few days ago, I was booking an Alaska Airlines flight for my brother (I am the personal travel agent for all my family members), and I was logged into my Alaska Airlines account.  2 weeks ago, I received 10,000 Alaska Airlines miles when my Virgin America account was linked to my Alaska Airlines account and my Virgin America Elevate Gold elite status matched to Alaska Airlines MVP Gold elite status.  I was curious if I had any guest upgrades in my Alaska Airlines account and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw.

Alaska Airlines Guest Upgrades 1

I had 4 guest upgrade codes waiting for me (I used an upgrade code on my brother’s flight), but there are still 3 left in my account.  They all have an expiration date of December 31, 2018, and I think you have to complete travel by that date.  I don’t remember getting an email from Alaska Airlines about the guest upgrade codes either.

Alaska Airlines Guest Upgrades 2

If anyone was recently matched to Alaska Airlines MVP Gold / 75K, you should have 4 guest upgrade codes in your account.  The next time I use an upgrade code, I will document the process and write a post about the process.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for the heads-up. I became MVP Gold after linking my VA account. I didn’t see the upgrades when the match happened, but now, I checked again and there they are plus Alaska lounge pass codes, too.

Thanks. Just found this out from my account too. With last year 4 guest upgrade codes I have a total of 8 codes now. But it seems I could not apply this code on a reward ticket but only purchased ticket?

Yes, you can only upgrade paid “upgradeable” tickets booked directly on Alaska Airlines for travel on Alaska Airlines.

You can use the Alaska Airline upgrade codes to upgrade from economy to first class at the time of booking, assuming upgrade space is available.

Question: Do you use the upgrade at time of purchase or can you use it subsequent to purchase?
If anyone has an extra one (or 2) to “spare” I have Luftansa and United Club passes or cash. I need one/two for August travel.

If you have upgrade offers in your Alaska Airlines account, I think you can search for upgradeable flights, then apply the upgrades during the end of the booking process.
