I Love My New Shiny Metal American Express Business Platinum Charge Card

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  Last week, Doctor of Credit wrote a post stating that you could now request a metal card for your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card.  I jumped at the opportunity to request the new card (I love metal cards like my JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton and Chase Sapphire Reserve).  Ordering a metal card was quick and easy online, so I will show you the process.  I also have images of the old plastic card vs the new metal card at the bottom of this post.  You can request metal cards for both the Business Platinum cards and Personal Platinum cards.  With that said, sign into your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card online account and click the Account Services tab (btw, it looks pretty ugly that American Express cannot fit the entire name of the tab in the tab).

Under Card Management, click Order a Replacement Card for Damaged, Lost, or Stolen Cards (I assume the name of the link will be updated at some point to include requesting a metal card).

Select the card you want to replace.  I am the primary user on the American Express Business Platinum Charge Card account and I added my family as authorized users / employees to the business as American Express Business Green Charge Card holders.  Fun fact, there is no annual fee to add authorized users as American Express Business Green Charge Card holders and they all get a $100 statement credit when they pay for Global Entry / TSA PreCheck with their card.  After you select the card you want to replace, select Request Metal Card and click the Continue button.

Then enter the 3 digit CSC (Card Security Code) on the back of your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card and click the Continue button.

Lastly, verify all the information is correct and click the Submit button.

I forgot to take a screenshot of the next page that shows the confirmation message after requesting a new metal card, but the global header for your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card now shows the new shiny metal card.

I requested the new metal card on Friday at 1pm and received an email on Monday at 2:40am that the metal card was sent out via USPS.

On Thursday, I received a USPS First Class Mail letter from American Express with my new metal American Express Business Platinum Charge Card.  The card looks much better in person than the scanned image.  It has the same thickness as the JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton Credit Card and is much stronger / sturdier than the Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card.

Here is the front of the American Express Business Platinum Charge Card (plastic card on left and metal card on right).  The card numbers moved from the front of the card to the back of the card.  For some reason, my old plastic American Express Business Platinum Charge Card said I was a member since 2016, but my new metal card says I am a member since 2008.

Here is the back of the American Express Business Platinum Charge Card (plastic card on left and metal card on right).  The new card has the same 15 digit card number, but the expiration date, 4 digit code on the front, and 3 digit code on the back all changed.  What I find funny (that I didn’t notice before) was that in the lower left corner of the cards, both cards say “Not Transferable”.  I don’t think any other American Express card, or any other credit card, has that message.  I assume that means you cannot give this card to a friend or family member to enter American Express Centurion Lounges.  I can’t think of another reason for that message.  Anyway, the back of the metal card is very clean.

There you have it, the new metal American Express Business Platinum Charge Card.  If you like metal cards, then I definitely recommend requesting a metal card.  If you do not like metal cards, keep your plastic card for as long as possible.  If American Express sends you a replacement card that is metal, you can contact American Express and request a plastic card instead.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!
