Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card Holders: Some Gas Purchases Not Earning 3x TYPs

Good morning everyone.  I received the following email from Citi yesterday regarding my Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card.  That credit card is supposed to earn 3x Thank You Points (TYPs) on all travel and gas purchases, but some gas purchases made at convenience stores did not code as 3x purchases.  According to the email, if you made a gas purchase at a convenience store between November 15, 2015 and July 21, 2017, you only earned 1x.  To remedy the situation, Citi is crediting the missing TYPs to your October 2017 Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card statement.

I checked my last 2 Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card statements (from September and October), but do not see any bonus TYPs.  I’m not 100% sure if I made gas purchases at convenience stores during that period, but I was looking forward to receiving my bonus TYPs.  As far as I can tell, my last 2 statements earned the correct number of TYPs.

Did you made a gas purchase at a convenience store with your Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card during that period?  Did you receive bonus TYPs on your October 2017 statement?  Please share your data points in the comments.  If you have a question, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone.

I got the same email. It gave me the impression I had received the email because I had already been identified and was receiving points. I checked last two statements and also found no bonus or anything that could be related. Seems odd they would want to broadcast the mistake more broadly than necessary.

Haha, I totally agree. Seems like they should be able to better identify customers who earned the bonus points and send an email just to those members. Oh well, that’s Citi for you.

Never rec’d the email, buy most of my gas at convenience stores and all points have been credited correctly back to 2015.

That’s good to hear. I haven’t heard any data points where people got shortchanged and then got the bonus Citi Thank You Points on their October 2017 statement.
