Convert any Citi Card to the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card

Good afternoon everyone, I have another short post for you guys.  Recently, I decided that I no longer wanted my Citi Dividend Credit Card – the bonus categories did not excite me this year.  So, I called Citi and asked if I could convert my Citi Dividend Credit Card into the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card.  Unfortunately, the rep said that credit card was not available as a conversion option on my Citi Dividend Credit Card.  No worries, I asked if I could convert to the no annual fee Citi AT&T Access Credit Card instead.  Yes, she said, I could convert to that credit card.  I then asked her if I could then convert my Citi AT&T Access Credit Card to the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card and she was not sure.  I had a hunch that it would work, so I went ahead and converted my Citi Dividend Credit Card into the no annual fee Citi AT&T Access Credit Card.  A few days later, I received my new Citi AT&T Access Credit Card.

Here is the welcome letter that came with the Citi AT&T Access Credit Card.

A few days after activating my Citi AT&T Access Credit Card, I called Citi and asked if I could convert to the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card.  No problem, she said, then proceeded to read a lengthy script describing all the differences between the 2 credit cards.  Fast forward a few more days, and my new Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card arrived.

That’s all I had to do. Assuming you can convert any Citi credit card to the Citi AT&T Access Credit Card, you will then be able to convert to the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card.  I like the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card because you get 10,000 bonus Citi Thank You Points when you spend $10,000 or more on the card during a cardmember year.  You also earn 3x on online purchase and AT&T purchases.  As soon as my Citi Forward Credit Card completes the conversion process to the Citi Thank You Preferred Credit Card, I will repeat the above steps to get another Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

You are earning Citi Thank You Points, the same points that you earn with the Citi Thank You Preferred, Citi Thank You Premier, and Citi Prestige CC.

Nope, you cannot directly apply for the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card and get the $650 phone credit sign up bonus. The only way to get that credit card now is via a conversion.

Right now the only good thing about my mortgage servicer is that I’m earning 3x TYP on payments via Plastiq.
I don’t know how well this works for rent payments.

Since the annual fee is $95, what is yhe advantage of having two AT&T More cards?

I can see the point of multiples where the rewards are capped, but im not aware of any cap on the AT&T More card.

The point of having multiple Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards is to get the 10,000 bonus Citi Thank You Points multiple times when you spend $10,000 on each credit card during a cardmember year.

That’s not much of a profit. I agree with Bill. I personally would keep the Dividend card and convert the forward card to the Citi AT&T More card. In fact, after I get the bonus, I’m doing that exact thing. I do appreciate your heads up on how to get it though. That’s quite helpful.

I haven’t received any retention offers on my AT&T Access More, perhaps because they see the steady stream of 3x TYP on $3k or more every month.

Yes, “online purchase” only means certain purchases made online. It seems that Citi decides which online purchases will count as 3x. Very annoying.

This morning I converted my AA personal platinum directly to the ATT Access More card, I’m sure it was the More version as he explained the $95 annual fee. Then I changed my dividend card to a doublecash card in the same call. Got a 3x online card and a 2% everywhere card without a credit inquiry. Will pair well with my Prestige card.

Thanks Grant for posting about this. It gave me the extra push/reminder I needed to call and get my Citi Plat AAdvantage card PCed to the Citi ATT Access More .

It was quick and painless. Probably 4 minutes. For those calling in, I just called the main number listed on the statement(and I assume on the back of the card), said representative 2 or 3 times at the automated system and I was connected to a live person. They spent a few minutes reading the terms and conditions.

Why didn’t you post this article on Monday so that when I converted my AA card yesterday, and couldn’t get the AT&T Access More and only the Access, I decided to just PC to Dividend.

Sorry, I got it published as quickly as possible. You should be able to call Citi and change the conversion to the Citi AT&T Access CC now.

I think you have 51 days to change your mind before the conversion officially kicks in. Just tell them you changed your mind and if you’re lucky maybe they’ll have the card you want.

I tried to convert an old AAdvantage Bronze over the AT&T acess, after being transferred 3x I was told that was a no go. I’m going to try to HUCA, I did get the greenlight for PCing to a Costco card which I’ve been meaning to PC to, so not all bad I suppose

One hiccup with changing to Access More I found with the first agent I spoke to is she didn’t think she could offer the product change and suggested the More card. HUCA and the next agent said she could offer the Access More but it would not come with the original phone promotion. So when calling if you get an agent that is hesitating, suggest that you don’t need the phone promotion.

    Grant,

You mentioned that you got the Citi AT&T Access Card in a few days after converting from Dividend.

But it takes about 50 days to convert any Citi card, right?

    Hi,

I tried to PC my Citi simplicity to the ATTAM card directly (before reading this), and they told me you cannot PC the simplicity to any Citi card. Is this true?
    Thanks,

    1. Grant Post author

I doubt that is true. Try calling back and seeing if you can convert your Citi Simplicity CC to the Citi AT&T Access CC or Citi Double Cash CC.

Sorry didn’t see the reply. Yeah I’ve talked to a few ppl with a similar experience. I’m not sure why that’s the case but if so it’s frustrating. Do you have any DPs of people PCing a simplicity?

If the Citi Forward CC is any indication, you would need to wait for Citi to discontinue the Citi Simplicity CC and converts all CCs to another CC. At that point, you should be able to convert that CC to another Citi CC.

I tried to convert my AA Bronze 1.5 years ago, told no go; tried again, told they no longer will do it; tried again, told no go, converted to Double Cash instead hoping it would work from that; tried again, no go; tried again, no go, converted to TY Preferred; tried again, no go. Just read this, tried now, told no go as expected; asked if I could convert to no-fee Access, was told that wasn’t an option either. I wonder if it’s an account thing. I’m going to try again and just ask for Access. Will try again later.

A few weeks ago, I was able to convert my Citi Premier CC directly into a Citi AT&T Access More CC. It involved speaking to a supervisor. You should be able to convert most cards to the no annual fee Citi AT&T Access CC.

Called Citi to do the first conversion from a double cash to ATT Access and was told the card number would change but it would not show as a new account on my credit report (which would affect 5/24 status). Did you get a new number and did it show as a new account or not?

Great question! I looked at my 3 Citi AT&T Access More CC, they all have new account numbers that differ from the prior Citi CCs. I do not believe they show as new accounts on my credit report.

Thanks but unfortunately based on data points I found last night at flyertalk you can no longer product change to Access More. Too bad seems like a good deal. Likely will go to Rewards+ card instead.

I would still recommend calling Citi 1-2 times and asking if you can product change to the “no annual fee AT&T Access card.” You might need to speak to a supervisor if the first rep can’t help you. Don’t give up yet on the AT&T Access More CC :)

I tried to change to Access More six times (no joke) from different Citi cards (though never an Access), and was told no go each time. One person flatly stated “We no longer perform conversions to that card.” This was in late 2016.

          2. Grant Post author

That’s interesting, I was able to convert 2 cards in 2018. Here is the conversion path I did:

            1. Converted from Citi Prestige to Citi Dividend on 6/12/17, then converted from Citi Dividend to Citi AT&T Access on 1/7/18, and then converted from Citi AT&T Access to Citi AT&T Access More on 1/23/18.
            2. Converted from Citi Forward to Citi Preferred on 2/3/18, then converted from Citi Preferred to Citi AT&T Access on 2/6/18; and then converted from Citi AT&T Access to Citi AT&T Access More on 2/20/18.

I think where people are getting stuck if the front-line CSRs usually are the route to success. Say you are canceling, get transferred to a retention agent, and they are more adept and willing to take care of these. I converted one along similar lines in 2018 as well.

          4. Grant Post author

Glad you were able to convert a Citi CC into a Citi AT&T Access More CC with the roundabout conversion process :)

      2. Sideshowbob233

Thanks – have to wait until statement close in a week or so or I lose all my cash back on DC (under $25 so I can’t cashout until this statement gets me past $25). Then will try. Worst case I can’t change and end up with Rewards+.

Did your card number change? If converting an AA or TYP card it might appear as a closure if the number changes, and afffects the 24 month clock. Thanks.

Yes, I believe most of the card numbers change since some of the CCs were Visas and the ATTAM CC are MasterCards.

My number did change but so far nothing has changed on my credit report so I think I’m safe — it will not report as a new card. As I’m at 13/24 anyway it won’t matter much either way though.

Flyer talk says it’s dead but I’m going to be trying to convert my ATT card to the more card starting Friday (my conversion period ends tomorrow – when I tried calling in last month they said it was still in the conversion period and couldn’t be converted again until that ended).

I haven’t heard any recent conversion data points. See if you can convert to the no annual fee Citi AT&T Access CC. If you can, then you can upgrade to the $95 Citi AT&T Access More CC.

Just called was told not possible to convert. She did say I could however apply for the Access more card. Which I don’t believe I don’t think she knows what she’s talking about. Will HUCA a few more times but doubt I can get it.

Did you need a supervisor to do the PC? I still see on flyertalk that nobody’s done it in a long time but wondering if a supervisor could pull it off.

On a separate note does the bravo app still give bonus points?

I didn’t talk to a supervisor, but you can ask for one. That might work. I haven’t used the Bravo app in years, so I’m not sure.

Hi SSB – Yes, I can confirm that the Bravo app still gives 3x points on ATTAM, as of 7/2/2019 (that’s the date of my last Bravo transaction before my most recent statement closed; of course, you can never tell for sure until you get a statement since you can’t see points-earning by transaction). This has been consistently earning 3x for me for almost a year now.

Hey SSB – Yikes, I think I was mistaken in my other recent reply to you. I just went through my most recent ATTAM statement with a fine-toothed comb. I’m afraid that Bravo has stopped earning 3x on ATTAM (and probably stopped earning 2x on ATTA as well). As best I can tell from my statement, I earned 3x TYPs for all of my Bravo charges up through and including 6/26/2019 – but it looks like I earned only 1x TYPs for my Bravo charges from 6/28/2019 forward. Nothing seems to have changed in the categorization of the Bravo charges, from what I can see in the transaction details in my online account. Ouch. This is a painful change for me. I need to post an article about it.

Good point, Stefan – thanks. I’ll try periodically. As for the new Citi interface that shows TYP earning, I have it for Premier but not for my other Citi cards. I’d really like to have it on ATTAM. It would make experimenting so much easier!

          Reply
      1. Sideshowbob233

OK I think I fundamentally misunderstood the layout of the TY point section of the statement. I was thinking it was similar to other Chase that list 1x points for each transaction, then 1x bonus points. So if you spent $300 total, and $100 was 2x bonus spend, you’d see 300 base points then 100 bonus points. That is not what Citi does apparently. And it just happened that my bonus spend was almost exactly equal to 2x my Bravo spend. So yeah I’m getting 1x too. As others said will keep trying periodically to see if they re-code it.

Two more data points that you can’t PC the Access to the Access More anymore.

Both my wife and I tried converting our Premier cards to ATTAM in July, but were told it was not an available option to product change to. (Actually, like others have said, my wife was originally told that ATTAM was available, but the agent became aware that they while reading the offer terms that the card, as expected, was not available to PC). We both went ahead and PC’d to the Access to test the waters.

We both tried a few weeks ago and again today to PC from our Access cards to Access More, but were both told “this card is no longer offered by Citi.”

When comparing the ATTA versus DC, I can’t see where the extra hassle of ATTA makes sense versus a card that earns 2% anywhere, whether online or not.
The ATTA makes a good segway to the ATTAM, but the ATTA doesn’t make a lot of sense these days.

        Reply
  22. Sideshowbob233

Now that the DC earnings can be converted to TY points there’s no reason for ATT card but prior to today you couldn’t do that so 2x for some purchases was better than you could get elsewhere. That said my ATTA card is going back to a DC ASAP.

The real question is… now that you have the AT&T Access card, can you call back and request the AT&T Access More card?
For some, paying the $95 annual fee is worth the extra 1% reward for “online” purchases. If >$9500 is spent “online”, it’s better to have the ATTAM vs. ATTA.
Is this just a situation where you have to PC twice, once to ATTA, and the second to ATTAM?
