What Should I See at Singapore Changi Airport?

I don’t mind spending time in airports when they are fun to explore. And some airports, well I just can’t get on a plane and get out of them fast enough. Singapore Changi Airport has been rated the #1 airport since 2013. That’s quite an honor! I’ll be transiting through Changi Airport and will have some time to explore and hopefully see why it’s rated #1. Having never been there before, so I wanted to ask you all what you think I should see and enjoy while I’m at Changi. I’d appreciate any ideas, so let me know in the comments below. Thanks everyone!

Haha, who said I was afraid of Asians? I love Asian food and I’m pretty good at chopsticks, but the language barrier and the long flights are intimidating.

You should visit the staff canteen. It’s where the airport workers get their meals–dirt cheap. It’s where you can really get the local experience and eat authentic local food prepared by and served to locals. It’s open to the public so you can sit shoulder to shoulder with baggage handlers and flight attendants while you enjoy your meal together. Skip all that silly stuff (butterfly garden, free movies, etc). This is the true insider experience for travelers.

This is a great suggestion, Donald. I’ll find out where the staff canteen is and hopefully I’ll be able to join in. Thanks so much for reading and sharing this idea!

bikanervala on the third floor of terminal 3 for delicious indian junk/fast food, food court in the basement of terminal 3 for local food, lounge around near the coffee shops for panoramic views of the runway, basement shops (terminal 3) for a bit of local flavor …

I’ve flown in and out of Singapore about 10 times, and I’d never even heard of the staff canteen until now. I’m very intrigued!

I do think the butterfly garden is worth seeing, and Changi is a beautiful airport to just walk around as well. Also, if you have priority pass, there are a few pretty nice lounges you can visit.

Thanks for the suggestions, Chris. I’ll have time to see some of the PP lounges and take in the sites you mentioned. Thanks for reading!

How long are you going to be at SIN? If quite long, then there are two free city tours -day and night. A cheap luggage storage is also available. As far as the airport, it`s ok, but nothing to write home about (everything looks artificial inside).
