Hyatt Carmel Highlands Timeshare Vacation Package ($299 for 4 Days / 3 Nights + 10,000 Hyatt Points)

Updated 3:45pm PT on 5/1/2018: I booked the timeshare vacation package and paid the $200 down payment.  Scroll to the bottom of the post to see more details.

Good afternoon everyone, I seem to be the king of getting timeshare vacation package offers (Westin and Wyndham).  I just got this offer from Hyatt for 4 days / 3 nights at the Hyatt Residence Club Carmel Highlands Inn.  I love Carmel and Monterey Bay, so this offer grabbed my attention instantly.  The cost is only $299 and includes 10,000 Hyatt points (worth ~$150 to me), so this offer seems like a no brainer.  There is no unique offer code, so anyone can call in and get this offer.  You must purchase by May 15 (2 weeks from now), but you have 12 months to complete your stay.  You must also attend a 90-120 minute timeshare presentation, but don’t let that discourage you.  Timeshare presentations are simple, just don’t buy anything.

Here are some of the photos of the resort.  There are plenty more photos available here.

If you do not want 10,000 Hyatt points, you could opt for the $100 resort credit, but I think the Hyatt points are a much better deal.  Also, it looks like the $299 price is for select dates, so depending on your dates, your stay may be more expensive than $299.

Lastly, here are the details and requirements to be eligible for the timeshare vacation package.  I don’t think the terms are always enforced, but they could be.

Here are the complete terms & conditions of the offer:

ELIGIBILITY/HOW TO REGISTER: To participate in this offer and receive 10,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points, you must purchase this package by May 15, 2018. To be eligible for this offer, you must travel during the Promotional Period and:
Attend a 90-minute vacation ownership sales presentation (not exceed 120 minutes) at the Hyatt Residence Club sales gallery during your stay.
Have an annual household income of at least $75,000 and be at least 25 years of age and cannot have attended a sales presentation at any Hyatt Residence Club resort in the past 12 months.
• If you are married or cohabitating, we require that both parties travel together as part of the package and attend the sales presentation.

View complete Details of Participation.

PROMOTION PERIOD: Purchase by May 15, 2018 and have 12 months to visit. If your schedule is uncertain, you may pay $200 now to accept this limited-time invitation, and pay the balance when you reserve your arrival date.

BONUS POINT POSTING: Your World of Hyatt Bonus Points will be awarded into your World of Hyatt Account within 30 days from completion of the sales presentation.

Updated 3:45pm PT on 5/1/2018: I called the number on the email to pay for the $200 down payment.  I was on hold for 15-20 minutes before speaking to an agent.  The agents are really busy right now with people booking this timeshare vacation package.  I learned that if you want to visit with 10 days of a holiday (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years), the cost will be more than the $299 price.  There is also limited availability, so you should lock in your travel dates sooner rather than later.

I don’t think so. Timeshare vacation package nights usually do not count toward elite status. I don’t think Hyatt elite status gets you anything at a Hyatt Residence Club property.

Any word on cancellation/refund for either the $209 prepayment or the $299 fixed date option? I’m interested but can’t 100% commit up front.

I do not know, but you should be able to inquire about the cancellation policy of the $200 down payment when you speak to the agent on the phone. My guess is that there is no refund available.

Update: I paid for the $200 down payment and this is what is says in the fine print about rescheduling and cancelling:

If I’m not mistaken, there is no Hyatt elite night-credit for this promotion. That’s a deal-breaker for me.

I still think it is a really good deal even without the elite night credit, but I am a lowly Hyatt Discoverist.

Thanks for posting! I actually just left this property today (great use of a Cat 1-7 certificate). I’d seen the promo rate displayed but missed booking it on site as there wasn’t an agent there this morning. Do you have a link to do this online? (Can the Book Now link in your image be shared?)

I did confirm some unfortunate things yesterday: Globalists do not get breakfast, no points are earned (including bonus points such as the current 1k promo that is valid even for award nights), and they may place the attendees in a regular hotel room (no view, no kitchen, etc.) if suites are sold out. That doesn’t normally happen, but it clearly does sometimes.

That said, it’s still a very good value. However, a vehicle is a must. Although breakfast is reasonable, other meals in the restaurant are fairly outrageously priced (yes, there’s a view, but still…). Thankfully the Crossroads Shopping Center nearby has a variety of great options, including a 24 hr Safeway. But that’s still miles away from Highlands Inn, which offers no shuttle service.

Hi Carl, thank you for the details. The “Book Now” link takes you to a form where you submit your name, email address and phone number. I assume the agents will then give you a call. I ended up just calling the number on the email to pay for the $200 down payment. The agents are pretty busy, I had to wait 15-20 minutes to speak with an agent, presumably because this offer is very popular.

Thanks, Grant. Hope you have a great time there! It’s amazing how close it is to the city and yet a totally different world.

You can’t use this unless you received the email. I just wasted 20 min waiting for an agent only to be told that.

Bummer, did they ask for your name and zipcode and try to look you up in the system? That is how they found me.

Right. But if your name is not in the system, i.e. you didnt get the invite, then you can’t book it. So why post about something that is not redeemable by anyone except for you?

I apologize, I did not see a unique invitation code in the email or after clicking the link, so I assumed it was open to everyone. I apologize for getting your hopes up and for wasting your time on hold. Hopefully you will be targeted in the future.

Just tried that and it worked! I said I was on property for dinner and heard about it there. They said it’s usually just for people who were invited BUT (gasp…) they were able to accommodate (shocker). Gave them my zip code and they added me to the offer. I had been in their system for some Hawaii offers previously.

That’s great news. This could be the case that you got a nice rep, so if others try this approach, you may need to HUCA a few times. But I think it is a great offer and worth the try.

Can anyone comment that actually booked a weekend stay (or finalized any stay, for that matter) whether the $299 stuck or if there was an uncharge for your selected dates?

          3. Grant Post author

I heard that stays within 10 days of a major holiday will have higher rates, but I haven’t paid the full amount to lock in dates yet.

I get this deal in the mail all the time. I keep wanting to do it but just haven’t had the time as I already have a ton of trips in advance. But it looks like an amazing property. I typically get it about every 6 months.

I think I remember getting it before too, but not in the last year or so. I have heard some great things about this property :)

Any advice for getting targeted? I sign up annually for Hilton and IHG but would love to do Hyatt, Westin, and Wyndom too.

I’m a member of all the hotel loyalty programs and have hotel credit cards for most of the hotels. Those might help me get targeted, but it could be based on zip codes and how often you stay at those hotel chains. I’m not sure.

I recently got this offer with a 7/25 exp date. Thought I’d mention that I’m not a member of any hotel loyalist points/clubs etc. and the last time I stayed in a hotel was probably +2 years ago. The only travel related thing I’ve done lately was get the Chase Sapphire Reserve card earlier this year. However, I am located in a fairly affluent San Francisco zip code so this could very well be a regional offer.

I’m looking forward to booking and happy to follow up on the experience.

Yes, it could definitely be related to home ZIP Codes. Since Carmel and San Francisco are only a few hours apart. I have yet to lock in my dates yet, so you may be able to do the timeshare vacation package before I will. Please let me know what your experience is booking the vacation package and staying at the property.

Hey Grant. Did you ever go to this property? I assume so since the year is almost up (May 2019) but I’d love to hear a follow up post how the stay went.

I was on my way to the Hyatt Carmel Highlands property for Valentine’s Day Weekend / President’s Day Weekend, but there was a bad storm the day before and a tree fell down and cut off the power. The property called me to say that my reservation was being cancelled and I would be refunded for the purchase price. I ended up using Hilton points to stay at an Embassy Suites in Seaside.

Oh wow. What a bummer. You’d think they would give you some points/cash to make up for that. I want to check out that property. I got that offer once but never used it and regretted it. Looks like an amazing property.

Nope, it has actually been kind of a pain to get the full refund. It’s almost a month later and still waiting for the refund…
