Good morning everyone.  A few weeks ago, Chase changed their travel provider for their Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal to Expedia, so I decided to do an updated guide on how to book travel through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal and pay with your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points.  To get started, sign into your Chase online account and click the Go to Ultimate Rewards button on the right side of the page.

If you have multiple Chase Ultimate Rewards Points earning credit cards, select the credit card with the highest redemption values.  The Chase Sapphire Reserve provides 1.5 cents per point (CPP) toward travel redemptions.  If you have Chase Ultimate Rewards Points scattered across your Chase credit cards, you can easily move your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to other Chase credit cards.  In my case, if I had Chase Ultimate Rewards Points on my Chase Ink Business Cash and Chase Ink Business Plus, I would move them all to my Chase Sapphire Reserve.

At the top of the screen, click the Travel (airplane) button.

On the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal, you can book flights, hotels, rental cars, activities, vacation rentals, and cruises.

My brother needed a flight to LAX, so I booked him a flight using Chase Ultimate Rewards Points. I filled in the flight details and clicked the Search button.

The results are sorted based on price, but you can filter the search results based on number of stops, airlines, departure times, and arrival times.

My brother wanted a nonstop flight that departed early in the morning, so I selected the 6am Alaska Airlines flight for $50.20 or 3,346 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points (3,346 x 1.5 CPP = $50.20).

A new feature in the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal is the ability to see flight details, available seats, and the cost of checked bags – just click the link to see the details.

You can see details of the flight and the cost of checked bags.  You can also click the Preview Availability link to see seat options (you can pick seats at a future step).

Here are the available seats for this flight.

Fill out the passenger information, including frequent flyer number and TSA PreCheck number.  Here is where you can select your seat.  You can decide if you want to pay for the flight with a credit card or with Chase Ultimate Rewards Points, or some combination of the 2.  Since I have lots of Chase Ultimate Rewards Points, I decided to pay with all points.

Add your email address, agree to the terms, and click the Complete Booking button.

Congratulations, your trip is booked.  To view details of your itinerary, click the View My Itinerary button.

You can see all the details of your trip, including the airline record locator.  Copy the airline record locator and go to the airline’s site if you want to change your seats or update your frequent flyer number and TSA PreCheck number.

Under My Trips, you can see all future trips you booked through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal.

Since I booked the Alaska Airlines flight, I went to Alaska Airline’s website and added the flight to my trips.  After logging into your Alaska Airlines online account, click the Purchased link under the My Trips header.

Then click the Add a Flight Reservation link.

Then enter the passenger’s last name and paste the airline record locator, then click the Save button.

Your flight will now show up on your My Trips section.  To view/update the reservation, click the Purchased Reservation link.

You can now change your seat, add your frequent flyer number, or add your TSA PreCheck number, if you didn’t add it early.  All of the information I entered on the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal stuck, so I didn’t need to do anything to this reservation.

Lastly, I received an email from the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal with the details of the trip.
