Hotel Review: Best Western Chinatown Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar (Great Price & Meals)

Good morning everyone.  After leaving Beijing, I spent 3 nights in Yangon, Myanmar on my 10 Day Asia Trip.  Myanmar does not have many chain hotels, so I checked on TripAdvisor and the Best Western Chinatown was a top pick and was only ~$50 USD / night.  A few weeks before checking in, I status matched from Hilton Diamond Elite Status to Best Western Diamond Select Elite Status.  This hotel is nothing fancy, but the breakfast and dinner were excellent.  The hotel also had a spa that offered 20% off massages in the afternoon and a sauna attached to the gym.  I wasn’t planning on writing a hotel review about this hotel, but after I checked out, I regretted not taking more pictures of the hotel.  Therefore, I am borrowing images from the Best Western website.

We arrived late at night, but this is what the front entrance looked like.  We walked in the lobby, checked in, and took the small elevator up to our floor.

I booked the cheapest (and smallest room) at the hotel in the hopes that my newly minted Best Western Diamond Select Elite Status would get us a room upgrade, but that doesn’t look like it happened on this stay.  The hotel room was probably 12 feet by 12 feet and the bathroom was probably 9 feet by 9 feet.

Here is a short video I took of the room to show its size.

Breakfast is complimentary to all hotel guests and they had a great selection of food.  The restaurant was big and had lots of seating.

Here are a few angles of the breakfast buffet (these photos don’t capture or represent all the food options).

We ate breakfast all 3 days, so the top 2 photos are from the first day, middle 2 photos are from the second day, and bottom 2 photos are from the third day.  The fresh fruit was great, the local pastries were delicious, and I really enjoyed the traditional Myanmar tea.  There were also other American and Asia dishes available for breakfast.

The hotel offers a set menu every night that rotates throughout the week.  We had a 4 course dinner (appetizer, soup, main, and dessert) plus a drink for $12 USD.  You can have a beer, glass of wine or a soft drink.  The first 4 photos are from the first dinner and the second set of 4 photos are from the second dinner.  I really don’t remember what we ate, but everything was delicious and I practically licked all the plates clean.

Unfortunately, there were no photos of the spa, sauna, or gym.  In the men’s restroom, there was a toilet, shower, and sauna.  The shower was better than the one in our room.  The sauna was very relaxing.  Like I mentioned earlier, you can get discount spa massages during the afternoon.  I highly recommend this hotel and would gladly stay at this hotel again the next time I stay in Yangon.  If you have any questions about the Best Western Chinatown, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

Pretty amazing how cheap everything is in Myanmar. I’m there now and my Yangon hotel was $22. My hotel near Inle lake (big spot for tourists) was $6 per night.

I totally agree, everything is so cheap. Depending on if you are in Yangon, I really recommend visiting the local zoo and going on a guided bike ride around town and over to the smaller islands.
