My October 2020 Credit Card App-O-Rama Results

Good morning everyone, happy Veteran’s Day!  At the end of October, my wife and I decided to do a credit card app-o-rama.  We have a few large bills to pay over the next few months (property tax, home insurance, holiday shopping, etc.) so we decided to apply for a few new credit cards to earn some miles and points.  Laura applied for 1 personal credit card (Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card) and I applied for 3 business credit cards (Bank of America Alaska Airlines Business Credit Card, American Express Delta SkyMiles Gold Business Credit Card, and Barclays Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Credit Card).  In today’s post, I will cover the Alaska Airlines Business Credit Card and the Delta Gold Business Credit Card application process.

I made sure to temporarily unfreeze our credit reports for a few days during the application process and we applied for all of these credit cards on October 25, so some of the offers may have expired or changed since then.  The Alaska Airlines Business Credit Card sign up bonus was for 40,000 Alaska Airlines Miles, a $200 statement credit, and the annual companion fare.  We need to spend $2,000 in 3 months and pay the $75 annual fee.

Luckily, I was instantly approved for the credit card with a $4,500 credit limit.  Once of the nice things about Bank of America is that they automatically add your new credit cards to your online account.

I received the approval email the next day.  I was a little worried since the email did not mention Alaska Airlines anywhere.

I logged into my Bank of America online account and saw the new Alaska Airlines Business Credit Card.  Bank of America is a little strange in that there is a corporate account and an employee account.  The employee gets the credit card and makes purchases.  Then the corporate account pays the monthly bill.

The next credit card that we applied for was the Delta Gold Business Credit Card.  The sign up bonus was for 60,000 Delta SkyMiles after spending $3,000 in 3 months.  The $99 annual fee is waived the first year.

Unfortunately, my application went to pending.  At the bottom of the screen it says not to call in about your application status, but I decided to call the application status phone number (1-866-314-0237 Mon-Fri 6am-8pm MST).

At the time of my application, I had 2 charge cards and 5 credit cards.  American Express has a new rule that you can only have 4 credit cards, so I would probably need to close 2 credit cards in order to be approved for this new Delta Gold Business Credit Card.

I was correct!  During the call, the rep said that I would need to close 2 credit cards in order to be approved for the new credit card.  I decided to close my American Express EveryDay Credit Card and my American Express Delta SkyMiles Blue Credit Card since I did not use either credit card.  The rep proceeded to close these 2 credit cards and approved me for my new credit card.  Here is the closed credit card email.

And here is the approved credit card email.

When I logged back into my American Express online account, I saw the 2 closed credit cards.

I went through the following steps to remove both closed credit cards from my online account.

Select the credit card you want to remove and click the Remove Card button.

Then click the Remove Card Now button.

Repeat the process for any other credit cards you need to remove.  You may need to log out and then log back in to see the changes.

When I logged back into my American Express online account, I no longer saw the 2 closed credit cards that I removed from my online account.

American Express decided to expedite the delivery of my new credit card and send it to me via FedEx Next Day Delivery.  The new credit card arrived the next day.

If you have any questions about these 2 credit cards or the application process, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

P.S. Check back soon for part 2 and 3 of our credit card app-o-rama.
