Redeem Wyndham Rewards Points Part 1: Transfer Points to Airline Miles & Timeshare Fees

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  A few weeks ago, I noticed that some of my Wyndham Rewards Points were set to expire later this year, so I went down the rabbit hole and looked at various redemption options available for Wyndham Rewards Points.  For part 1, I am going to cover transferring Wyndham Rewards Points to airline miles (which airlines are available, what are the transfer ratios, and what are the transfer times) and cover some of the timeshare fees (brief overview).  Check out part 2 where I cover transferring Wyndham Rewards Points to Caesars Rewards Points (and transfers back) and a way to extend the expiration date of your Wyndham Rewards Points.

To get started, I signed into my Wyndham Rewards account and went to the More Ways to Redeem page.  From there, I clicked on Points Transfer Partners.

There are 3 options to choose from.  In today’s post, I will cover the top 2 options.  For the last option, read this post.  To get started, I clicked on Airline Miles & Partner Points.

There are a total of 11 airline partners available.

I decided to do a sample transfer from Wyndham Rewards Points to United Airlines Miles.  The transfer rates are the same for all 11 airline partners.  I decided to convert 6,000 Wyndham Rewards Points into 1,200 United Airlines Miles (5:1 transfer ratio).  The small print on the bottom said that the transfer could take 6-8 weeks.

I submitted my order on February 16, 2021.

I also received a confirmation email about my points transfer.

I checked my United Airlines account every day and finally spotted the 1,200 miles on February 25, 2021 (~9 days after making the transfer).  It looks like United Airlines backdated the miles to the same date the transfer was submitted, but trust me when I say that it took ~9 days for the miles to appear in my account.  I can’t say for sure if all airline transfers take ~9 days, so keep that in mind that you may have to wait longer for some of the other airline partners.

Back to Wyndham Rewards, the next option I looked at was the Maintenance & Exchange Fees.

I don’t have any timeshares, so there was nothing for me to test here, but here are the 6 redemption options.  It looks like 10,000 Wyndham Rewards Points is worth $50 in timeshare fees / dues (2:1 ratio – which doesn’t seem too bad).

It looks like you have to buy in increments of 10,000 Wyndham Rewards Points.  I’m not sure how quickly the transfer times are, but it does say it can take up to 4 weeks.

Check out part 2 to learn about transferring Wyndham Rewards Points to Caesars Rewards Points.

On the site I see the number of points expiring when it is next happening (for example 733 points expiring in August). Is there an easy way to see what expires after that (say by the end of the year)? I only know of calling, or doing some fake bookings to reduce the expiring points and see the next batch. And then of course canceling the bookings.

I hope nobody uses all their points on part 1 transfers before looking at Caesar transfers. IMHO that’s where the best deal is. I max it out every year,

Hi Carl, I think you can look at your account activity and see when the points posted. See when you earned those 733 points that are expiring in August 2021. Calculate the amount of time between when you earned those 733 points and August 2021. You can then use that amount of time to calculate when your next round of points will expire.

The transfers to Caesars Rewards is a great redemption option that I will highlight tomorrow.

Unfortunately activity on the site just goes back 18 months. The points expiring in 8/21 should be from 8/17 (four years before), but without the history that doesn’t help. On the phone they can look back four years, but it’s a tedious call. Right now I know a the status until the end of 2021 since I could see the new expiration points/date show when I used points for a fake bookings. Just added the fake booking points to the “new” expiring points, and then cancelled the bookings,

I converted 30K points late last year, and 30K more earlier this year to beef up the Caesar credits, Hope to get to use some this year. Had first Moderna shot a week ago, so I am seeing some light at the of the tunnel.

Hi Carl, I didn’t realize that the Wyndham Rewards site only shows activity for the last 18 months, that makes this process much more difficult. I think transferring points to Caesars Rewards is a great option. Hopefully you can travel sometime in the next few months and use your Wyndham Rewards Points.

We have had 90K points expire between my wife and I over the past 1.5 years. We have another 90K in 4 months that we won’t use. As much as I hate to know I could have made use of the old 90K, at least I now know I can get about $300 in Amazon gift cards……….which is more than nothing.

Thanks for choosing the topic! Without the mention I would have let them die on the vine.

Hi Mike, I’m sorry to hear that 90K Wyndham Rewards Points expired. Read my post tomorrow about transfers to Caesars Rewards for another good redemption option.

nice! Didn’t even know this was possible. I redeemed for a hotel night in the past that I didn’t really want to before (would of preferred to save wyndham pts for something else)…thanks for the tip

I have a plan for them…not possible at the moment w/ C19 restrictions (UK/EU)…but later this year perhaps. In meantime, I go to Turkey!
