Brainstorming New Credit Card Ideas for Citi – Check Out the Citi Adulting is Hard Rewards Credit Card

Good morning everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes I dream about credit cards and travelling.  I also recently product changed from an old Citi AT&T Access More to a Citi Custom Cash (read My Experience Product Changing / Converting / Downgrading to the Citi Custom Cash Credit Card), so I had the Citi Custom Cash on the brain.  As you probably know, Citi has several “cash back” credit cards that earn Citi ThankYou Points and each credit card has it’s niche.  I decided to brainstorm some ideas for new Citi credit cards, so let me know what you think.

For starters, let’s go through the existing Citi credit card lineup to see what areas are already covered to identify possible opportunities.

  • Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card (no longer available) – 3x for AT&T purchases and online purchases; 1x everywhere else
  • Citi Rewards+ Credit Card – 2x at supermarkets and gas stations; 1x everywhere else; round up to the nearest 10 points; 10% rebate on redeemed points, up to 10,000 points
  • Citi Custom Cash Credit Card – 5% cash back on your highest spend category, on the first $500 spent in that category each month; 1% cash back everywhere else
  • Citi Dividend Credit Card (no longer available) – 5% cash back in rotating categories every quarter

As a reminder, the credit cards listed below are still early in the brainstorming phase, so please go easy on the names and bonus categories.  Without further ado, here are the ideas in alphabetical order:

  • Citi Adulting is Hard Rewards Credit Card – 5% cash back on “fun” adult categories like day care, insurance payments, tax payments, medical bills, car maintenance and repairs, parking tickets, toll roads and bridges, and HOA payments; 1% cash back everywhere else
  • Citi Calendar Rewards Credit Card – 5% cash back in categories that change every month, on the first $500 spent in that category each month; 1% cash back everywhere else
    • January – snow removal
    • February – Valentine’s Day gifts
    • March – spring cleaning
    • April – Easter gifts
    • May – Mother’s Day gifts
    • June – Father’s Day gifts
    • July – beach and BBQ
    • August – back to school shopping
    • September – baseball and football games
    • October – Halloween decorations and costumes
    • November – Thanksgiving feast
    • December – holiday decorations and online shopping
  • Citi Super Student Rewards Credit Card – 5% cash back on categories college kids spend the most: fast food restaurants, coffee shops, textbooks, laptops, phone bills, and gas stations; 1.5% cash back everywhere else
  • Citi Triple Cash Premium Credit Card – 3% cash back everywhere and everyday, comes with a $95 annual fee
  • Citi Weekend Warrior Rewards Credit Card – 4% cash back on home improvement, auto parts, rental cars, gas stations, junk removal, storage units and sporting events; 1% cash back everywhere else
    • Limited Time Offer: receive a 25% bonus for all purchases made on Saturday and Sunday for the first 12 billing cycles

Honestly, if these credit cards were real, I could definitely see myself applying or product changing to them.  If you have any ideas to improve these credit cards, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

The “Citi Super Student Rewards” card reminds me of the Citi mtvU card (which was my second credit card) and its successor the Citi Forward card, which gave 5x TYP on bookstores, music, movies, and restaurants. The mtvU card also offered bonus points based on your report card; I don’t think this was a standard feature on the Citi Forward card unless you were converted from the MTVU card but I could be mistaken.

Sadly the Forward was discontinued and cardholders were converted to the ThankYou Preferred card which was a major loss.

Hey Tonei, I had the Citi Forward CC too and it was great. Sad that Citi product changed that card to a ThankYou Preferred. RIP old friend :(
