Barclays Sent Me a Letter About Missed $95 Annual Fee on my Barclays Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Credit Card

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.  A few days ago, I got this letter from Barclays regarding the $95 annual fee on Barclays Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Credit Card.  Apparently Barclays did not charge me the $95 annual fee when they should have in December 2021, so to correct this issue, they charged me the $95 annual fee in April 2022.  So much for bank error in your favor (Monopoly reference).  I’m not sure if this is a widespread issue or if it only happened to me.  In this post, I will share the timeline of events.

I got the Barclays Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Credit Card in October 2020 and was charged the $95 annual fee on November 30, 2020.

One year later, on my December 2021 statement, I was not charged the $95 annual fee.

In January 2022, I received my 15,000 anniversary points for having this credit card.

On my May 2022 statement, I was charged the $95 annual fee.

I have mixed feelings about this issue.  Part of me thought Barclays didn’t want to charge me the $95 annual fee and part of me feels strange that Barclays can charge the annual fee 4-5 months later than they should have.  I love this card for the 10% discount on Wyndham Rewards and Vacasa Vacation Rental bookings, so I can’t stay mad at Barclays for too long.  If you received a similar letter, please let me know.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Lauren, thanks for letting me know it is affecting other cardmembers and other Barclays CCs. How late was your annual fee?

When my Aviator Red AF hit in January I called retention and got it waived. I didn’t touch the card for a while after that and then I got notification from Credit Karma that that account had a 30 day late payment note on it, killing my credit. I called Barclays and they said they have no record of me getting that AF waiver. They are the absolute worst. Cheap/easy points, but such a pain to work with.

Hi Dakota, yikes, that sucks. I always worry when the rep says they will do something if they will actually follow through and do what they said on the call. I err on the side of caution and pay the annual fee credit card bill and wait for the statement credit later on, then deal with that statement credit.

I just got the same letter on my Barclays Aadvantage aviator business so seems pretty wide spread, but maybe just business cards. I was also due for the fee in November or December. I thought maybe they waved the fees similar to how Citi gave unexpected retention bonuses last year.

Ya, seems like the issue is mostly on business CCs where annual fees were supposed to post in November / December 2021. Surprised it took Barclays 4-5 months to figure out the issue.

P2 got the same letter last week for the Wyndham earner Business card. I did not get anything regarding my Wyndham earner Business or Jet Blue Business cards.

Thanks for sharing your data points. Do either of your Barclays CCs have annual fees that normally post in November or December?

Actually, I had the same letter just received last week on my Aviator Business card, and also, for some reason, my autopay was discontinued, so, I got a late notice, which they waived, but the ady sad they couldn’t waive the 3 dollars and change interest (??)
I believe this might be linked to the fact that they merged business and personal accounts about 6 months ago.
And, indeed they are a poorly run operation. The “bankers” are no help 90% of the time, and the foreign call centers are unintelligible.

Ya, I think you’re right about the merging or personal and business accounts into a single login. The foreign call center was terrible. I tried to ask about retention offers and the rep told me to call a specific number. After the call, I realized that the rep gave me the exact same phone number I just called. After 2 calls, I gave up on trying for a retention offer and paid the annual fee.

On a related note, I called AMEX about downgrading my AMEX Hilton Aspire to a no AF AMEX Hilton CC. The rep said that the annual fee posted 2 days ago so I had 2 days of benefits, so I didn’t get a full refund on the $450 annual fee, but still owed a few bucks. So lame, but it is what it is.

I also have the AA business card. My fee was due last September. I got the same letter 2 weeks ago (I was out of town). Called customer support yesterday asking about it and they waived the fee. Just checked and the fee has been credited. So, I guess better late than never.

Hi Cliff, thanks for sharing your data point. I’m glad the rep was able to waive the annual fee on your credit card.

FYI – I opened a new business card in June and received my first statement a few days ago.
Yep – I was NOT billed the $95 annual fee. So maybe in 6 months will receive the same notice.

Guess I was not as lucky as I thought — the $95 annual fee is posting on my July statement (second statement)
