How to Book a Flight with Capital One Venture X Credit Card $300 Travel Credit

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well.  A few months ago, I applied for the Capital One Venture X Credit Card because it offered a sign up bonus of 75,000 Capital One Miles (which I plan to transfer to Wyndham Rewards to book Vacasa Vacation Rentals) and a $300 travel credit for travel purchased through the Capital One Travel portal.

I recently purchased a flight through the Capital One Travel portal, so I wanted to write about the booking process and timeline from booking to receiving the $300 travel credit.

Here are the complete terms and conditions of the $300 travel credit:

You will receive a statement credit for up to $300 in purchases made via Capital One Travel. The $300 statement credit will be provided as a single credit if the Capital One Travel purchase is greater than or equal to $300, or in multiple statement credits until the total Capital One Travel purchases are greater than or equal to $300. The credit will appear in your account within 1-7 business days, but it may take up to 2 billing cycles after purchase. If the credited Capital One Travel purchase is canceled, the statement credit may be removed from your account, though it can be reissued on any past or future Capital One Travel purchases up to $300. Your Venture X card account must be open and in good standing at the time of statement credit fulfillment.

To get started, I signed into my Capital One online account, went to my Venture X card, clicked on Rewards, and clicked Book a Trip.

I previously found the flight I wanted to book using Google Flights, then I filled in the flight details for a trip from San Francisco (SFO) to Panama City, Florida (ECP).

Capital One Travel suggested that I wait for a lower price and gave me the option to freeze the price for $36 or watch the trip for $60.  I ignored both options since I can always cancel and rebook if the price drops.  I have Google Flights tracking the flight for price drops so I will be alerted as soon as the price drops (if it does indeed drop in the near future).

I selected the flight I wanted and clicked the Continue button.

I declined the $56 travel protection since I can cancel this flight and use the travel funds for a future flight, if necessary.

Since it was my first time using the Capital One Travel portal, I needed to add myself as a traveler, so I clicked the Add Traveler button.

I entered my personal information, frequent flyer number, Known Traveler Number (TSA PreCheck / Global Entry number), and clicked the Save Traveler button.

I then checked the box to add myself as the traveler, entered my contact info, and clicked the Save & Continue button.

I skipped the seat selection option since I will select my seat directly from the airline after the reservation is booked.  I did not want to pay with my Capital One Miles, so I declined that option.  I then clicked the plus button to add my Venture X as my payment method.

I added my Venture X card info and clicked the Save button.

I made to sure to pay with my Venture X to trigger the $300 travel credit and clicked the Confirm and Book button.

My flight was booked and my airline record locator was shown.  I copied the airline record locator to my airline app and picked my preferred seats.

I received a Capital One Travel booking confirmation email with my trip details.

The bottom of the email shows the payment info and says that the $300 travel credit should post in 1-7 business days, but may take up to 2 billing cycles to post.

My flight showed up in the Capital One Travel portal under My Trips and under the Upcoming Trips section.

The purchase was made on October 4 and showed as pending on my Venture X.

The $300 travel credit finally posted to my account on October 31, roughly 4 weeks after purchase.  I received an email from Capital One when the travel credit posted to my account.

Unfortunately for me, my credit card statement was due in early November, so I paid off the entire balance and now have a $300 credit balance on my Venture X.  Oh well, time to book some more trips.

The whole process worked well, but it took longer than I expected for the $300 travel credit to post to my account.  I much prefer to book flights directly with the airline, but if I have a $300 travel credit to use, I will go through the additional steps to book through the Capital One Travel portal.  If you have any questions about the Capital One Venture X Credit Card or the Capital One Travel portal, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

Hi Christian, I earned 5x since flights booked through the Capital One Travel portal is 5x. You get 10x for booking hotels and rental cars through the Capital One Travel portal.

Hi Kay, I’ve done that many times with Alaska Airlines and it works exactly as you described. I haven’t tried with American Airlines, but I’m pretty sure that is how it should work too. Just make sure you cancel on the airline’s website and not through the Capital One Travel portal. That way you will not need to contact the Capital One Travel portal to use the travel credit.
