Bank of America Alaska Airlines Credit Card 10% Relationship Bonus Miles Now Posting

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  My Bank of America Alaska Airlines Credit Card statement just closed and I noticed that the 10% relationship bonus miles are now posting to my Alaska Airlines account.  I wanted to share the news in case you were wondering when the relationship bonus miles would post.  A few months ago, Bank of America announced the following changes to the Alaska Airlines credit card.  The most exciting news to me was regarding the “10% rewards bonus” if you have an eligible Bank of America account.  I have a personal Bank of America checking account, so I was excited for this change.

Here are the terms and conditions for Footnote 2:

(Footnote 2) Relationship Bonus Miles: You will earn bonus Miles equal to 10% of the Miles you earn on each $1 spent in Net Purchases when you have an active Qualifying Account. An active Qualifying Account is an open consumer (non-business) checking or savings account with Bank of America N.A. or an investment account with Merrill that maintains an average daily balance greater than $0 or a Bank of America checking or savings account that has had a deposit or withdrawal within 90 days. Balances are reviewed at the end of every month to determine if qualifications were met. For cardholders with a Qualifying Account all Net Purchases made with your Card on or after the fifth business day of the current month through the fifth business day of the following month will earn the Relationship Bonus Miles. Upon new account opening of a Qualifying Account, it may take up to 30 days to begin earning the Relationship Bonus Miles.

To test out this change, I purchased an Alaska Airlines flight using Alaska Airlines wallet funds and paid the remaining $4.59 on my Alaska Airlines credit card.

My credit card statement closed a few days and the $4.59 is the only charge on my bill.

At the Rewards Summary section, I see my 5 Base purchase miles (1x everywhere), 9 Alaska Airlines purchase bonus miles (2x on Alaska Airlines), and 1 Relationship Bonus Mile.  The terms state: “You will earn bonus Miles equal to 10% of the Miles you earn on each $1 spent in Net Purchases when you have an active Qualifying Account.”  The standard number of miles I would have earned is 14, so 10% of 14 = 1.4, rounded down to 1.

In my Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan activity section, I see the same breakdown of miles: 5 Base purchase miles, 9 Alaska Airlines purchase bonus miles, and 1 Relationship Bonus Mile.

I don’t use my Alaska Airlines credit card often (not even for Alaska Airlines flights), since I use the 35% rebate from my American Express Business Platinum Card to pay for Alaska Airlines flights.  If you do use this credit card often and have a qualifying Bank of America account, the extra 10% relationship bonus is a nice cherry on top, assuming you also use your Alaska Airlines Companion Fare for a good trip.  If you have any questions about how the 10% relationship bonus works, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!
