Gift Cards from Office Supply Stores

Thanks to the Chase Ink Bold/Plus cards, you are able to purchase gift cards (and prepaid debit cards) in store and earn 5x points per dollar.  There is nothing worse than driving to your local office supply store and finding out that the gift card you want is not sold there.  So which stores have which gift cards?

You can buy fixed value gift cards only, the cards will say $200 on them. You will not be able to buy the variable load cards, the ones that say $20-$500 loads.

Interestingly, our Bakersfield OM carries gc for Von’s and Albertsons grocery store but the OM in the Central coast does not. I thought it would be consistent? Thoughts?

They may have them at both locations, but they may not be on display. If you ask someone who works there, they may be able to check for you.

Office Max online doesn’t exist anymore now that Office Max and Office Depot merged. You can use multiple $200 Visa Gift Cards in-store to pay for a larger ticket item, but it would be possible to use multiple cards online.

Haven’t been able to find Marriott gift cards at Staples in quite a while. But saw Disney gift cards at my local Staples today, available in $50.00 denominations.

Try another Staples or go to Office Depot/Office Max. If you do not see the gift card on the rack, ask a cashier or manager if they have any gift cards in the back or underneath the gift card display.

It is lame. Tried several Office Depots. Same at all. Staples maxes VS/MC gift cards at $50. Not worth it with the $6 fee. I end up buying lots of Amazon, etc., cards. If anyone knows of office stores in Northern Virginia was better success, I am ears.

@McCool Travel, I live in Stafford, Va and I’ve had success at Staples here and up in DC. Both had plenty of $200 MCGC and I believe they both stock VGC, but were out of the $200 variety.

Is there any reason not to buy fixed value GCs online from office supply stores? I’m lazy and if I can just order enough online every month to cover my mortgage I would refer doing that. I’m just not sure if that has caused issues for people in the past.

Online ordering is fine. You won’t earn any portal cash back and the deliveries usually take about a week to arrive. If those don’t matter to you, then online ordering will be fine.

I’ll still get my 5x from ink so I’m ok with that I suppose. Thanks! Just booked my first awards flight yesterday so I have to replenish the coffers.

Get a Citi Dividend Credit Card. You can earn 5% cash back at best buy for October-December. Or check giftcardgranny for year round discounts.
