Using British Airways Avios on Partners Air Berlin and Niki

Point Me To The Plane wrote an interesting article about Avios Awards on Hidden Partners – Trip Report Monarch Airlines London – Mallorca today (August 15) that highlighted some of the lesser known Avios partners.  That reminded me that I booked a few flights for January 2014 on Air Berlin’s partner airline Niki.  According to Wikipedia, “NIKI Luftfahrt GmbH, also known as flyNiki is a scheduled semi-lowcost airline and a subsidiary of Air Berlin.”

To use British Airways Avios on Niki flights, just search BA.com as you normally would on the routes that Niki flies (complete list provided at the bottom of this post).

You are given the option to pay more/less Avios or more/less taxes.

Niki VIE FCO Pay

Looking on ITA, the price for the flight is $104.70.

The fare itself is only $8, but the taxes are almost $100 per ticket.

I calculated each Avios and tax combination to determine what had the highest cost per mile (CPM).  Ultimately, the first choice is the best redemption value.

Avios Taxes CPM
4,500 $43.52 1.36
4,050 $53.52 1.26
3,600 $58.52 1.28
3,150 $63.52 1.31
2,700 $73.52 1.15
2,250 $78.52 1.16
