$20 Staples Gift Card After Purchasing $300+ of MasterCard Gift Cards at Staples
(Hat Tip to Frequent Miler (link) – he is on vacation and still has time to find great deals)
This is similar to other Staples Easy Rebates, but this time, you will get a Staples Gift Card as a rebate, instead of a prepaid Visa/MasterCard gift card. The terms of the offer say you can only get the rebate once per household (think out side the box neighborhood). Offer valid from July 13th – 19th.
Since you have to buy MasterCard gift cards, you will have to go to a Staples store. Staples.com only sells Visa Gift Cards. You must buy MasterCard gift cards to qualify for the Easy Rebate. If you have never completed an Easy Rebate, they are really easy (link).
The math breakdown:
- $200 MasterCard Gift Cards with activation = $206.95
- 2 MasterCard Gift Cards = $413.90
- If you have a Chase Ink Bold/Plus Visa Credit Card, you can enroll in Visa Savings Edge (link) and get 1% cash back onto your credit card, which is an additional $4.14.
- $20 Staples gift card is as good as cash (if you know how to use them online), so your net profit is $10.24 ($20.00 + $4.14 – $13.90) + 2,070 Chase Ultimate Reward Points
Go to Staples today before all the $200 MasterCard Gift Cards are sold out. You may be stuck buying 3 $100 gift cards. The math then works out to: $106.95 x 3 = $320.85 – $20 Staples Gift Card – $3.21 from Visa Savings Edge = net profit of $2.36 + 1,604 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points.
You can add PINs to these gift cards and use them at Walmart for all your errands.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi Grant,
Thanks. How do you add pin number?
Hoang: the last four numbers of the card number are the initial PIN number. If you want to set your own PIN, call the number on the back of the card.
Chrisflyer,
Thanks. Do they limit the rebate?
It’s one per household/address.
Actually, with the mastercards, you need to call and set a PIN. You can’t just use the last for numbers in the card number.
For those who don’t know how to use the Staples card they can sell it to giftcards.com for $17.40. Not the route I would go, but it is available.
Also the pin is a random number and not the last four digits since these are MC gift card issued by U.S. bank. Sometimes the pin is in the packaging. If not call 866-952-5653 to set the pin.
That’s a good point. According to Gift Card Granny (http://www.giftcardgranny.com/sell-a-gift-card/#staples) you can sell Staples gift cards for 85-87% face value. I would gladly buy Staples GCs for 90% face value.
One time I got Staples rebate GC and I was able to load it to BB.
Yes, that was probably a Visa or MasterCard gift card, instead of a Staples gift cards.
That’s right about the PIN. The last four numbers of the card will work for the visa gift cards from staples, but not the mastercards. Sorry about the error.
No worries. There are too many gift cards to keep everything straight.
Or maybe use your amex and get $15 back if one (like me) doesn’t have chase ink…
Use your AMEX for now (but get a Chase Ink soon) :)
The Amex offer is only for Staples.com purchases and this deal is only in store.
Good catch Shawn. Got to really read the small print on the AMEX Offers.
Grant: I have never loaded these GCs into BBs at Walmart kiosks. It should work. Correct?
You may need to use the “change payment workaround” after you swipe the MasterCard gift cards. It is really easy, but you have to be fast. These gift cards are from Staples (US Bank), so you shouldn’t have any problems loading to Bluebird/Serve.
Tried at Walmart’s BB Kiost today. It didn’t work. Could you tell me the exact instructions on how to get this working?
Did you set the PIN for this gift card and try the change payment workaround?
Heard loading mc on bb was hit or miss ( unlike visa gc) true?

You have to hit “cancel” and then select debit if you are paying at the register to load BB at WM. If you are loading BB at the Money Center Express kiosk then these MC gift cards work just like any other. Just make sure to set the pin ahead of time.
Sorry Grant. Your reply wasn’t there yet when I was submitting my reply.
No problem, I’ll try to be faster next time :)
Thanks for filling in for me though.
In my experience, some mastercard gift cards will not work at walmart and there is no workaround. It seems fairly random. Today I bought three $200 mastercard GCs at staples. Two loaded to Bluebird fine on the kiosk, the third one did not work. I’ve had a few in the past that didn’t work at Walmart, although the majority work fine.
I tried loading mc at Walmart machine and it didn’t work. Does anyone know If I should be calling the bank to set the PIN number for each or last 4 will work?
I would call the number on the back of the gift card to set the PIN. The process is a bit trickier with MasterCard gift cards than Visa gift cards.
Hi Grant, thanks for the post. My rebate redemption form did not print. Do I have to go back to the store and ask for it?
Did you buy more than $300 in MasterCard gift cards in the same transaction? Visa gift cards do not qualify. You can submit the Staples Easy Rebate online, using rebate number 14-94498 and your receipt number from the bottom of your receipt.
I bought 2 – $200 MasterCard gift cards. Thanks for providing the rebate number. That is exactly what I needed.
Glad I could help.
