Supervalu / Albertsons / ACME / Jewel-Osco / Shaws / Star Market Data Breach and 12 Months of Free All Clear Identity Theft Monitoring
This morning, I was reading the Wall Street Journal online and saw read this article: Supervalu Reports Second Hacking Incident – August Data Breach Affects Certain Albertsons, Acme, Jewel-Osco and Shaw’s Stores (link). The part that really caught my attention said:
As a precaution, Supervalu and AB Acquisition said they will offer 12 months of free consumer-identity protection services through AllClear ID to customers whose information may have been compromised in the hacking incidents.
If you have at any of these supermarkets during the last few months, you may want to sign up for a free 12 month identity protection plan from All Clear (link). The process is pretty simple, to start, just check the box and enter your full name and email address.
You will see the confirmation screen and your email should arrive in a few minutes.
In the email, look for the link to sign up for All Clear. For convenience, click here.
Then copy and paste the redemption code from the email into the redemption code box.
To get started, fill in your name and email address.
Fill in all required fields to complete your All Clear enrollment.
Congratulations, your All Clear account is complete.
When you sign in for your first time, you will receive an automated phone call from All Clear asking to record your full name, a security phrase (mine was “TravelwithGrant.com is the best blog ever!”), and a 4 digit PIN number.
After completing those steps, your registration is complete.
When you try to log in again, you will get an automated phone call from All Clear. It will start off with your security phrase, “TravelwithGrant.com is the best blog ever!” and ask you for your PIN.
After entering the PIN on the phone, you will be automatically logged into your All Clear account. There is really nothing else to do at this point. Hopefully you never hear from All Clear (no identity theft alerts), but if you do, All Clear will be there to help.
Last but not least, here is a copy of the All Clear email with your protection plan details:

Great post. I shop at my local Albertson’s all of the time and didn’t know about this breach for some reason.
I think this is a regional issue, but better to be safe than sorry.
Which bureau are they monitoring? Silver lining of these breaches are credit card companies needing to incentivize credit use more (after likely dropped customers) and I keep getting free monitoring. Already signed up for target/home depot’s.
I am not exactly sure, but I have Target’s protection as well. Only a few more months for that protection.
I am concerned, since I shop at Shop ‘n Save and Save-A-Lot stores.
I would be concerned too, seems like every week there is a new data breach. Hopefully nothing bad happens, but I would still sign up for the identity theft monitoring service – it’s free!
