Random News: AMEX Small Business Saturday, New Serve Card Design, BankAmeriCard Deals, and Staples Easy Rebates
Good morning everyone, I had a great time at the OC Meetup yesterday afternoon. It was a great mix of new and old friends/readers. I was even given a giant birthday cupcake by my friend from Long Beach. My birthday isn’t until November 27 (Thanksgiving Day), but I gladly appreciate early birthday presents. I will probably have the next OC Meetup on Saturday, December 13, time and place TBD. I will post more info closer to the date.
Other than my birthday being less than 2 weeks away, the other major news item that was announced today was enrollment for Small Business Saturday (November 29) has begun. If you log into your AMEX online account, you should see the Small Business Saturday offer at the very top of your offer list. You can add the offer to all of your AMEX credit and charge cards.
If you have never participated in Small Business Saturday, the concept is simple. For every $10 or more purchase you make at a qualifying small business on Small Business Saturday (November 29), you will receive a $10 statement credit. You can receive up to 3 $10 statement credits per registered AMEX card. From my understanding, you can use the same AMEX card to make all 3 purchases at the same small business. See the link below to see which merchants qualify for Small Business Saturday.
If you have an AMEX Bluebird Card, an AMEX Serve Card, or an AMEX card issued by another bank, you can manually enroll your card in Small Business Saturday by registering here.
If your card is eligible for Small Business Saturday, you will see the confirmation screen.
If your card is not eligible (AMEX Target Redbird Card or old AMEX Prepaid Card), you will see this screen.
For every card you register, you will receive a confirmation email from American Express.
If you have a few AMEX credit or charge cards, you may receive a few emails from American Express (I’m sure there are some of you with way more than 11 AMEX cards).
Please take a moment to answer my poll question so I can gauge how many AMEX cards my readers are registering for Small Business Saturday. Thank you.
I recently received a new AMEX Serve Card and noticed the card was redesigned since the first AMEX Serve Card I received back in April. As a refresher, here is what the old card design looks like.
Here is what the new card design looks like. Nothing much changed, but I do like the new design a little better than the first design. I wonder if my friend at Walmart will notice the change…
I don’t talk about BankAmeriDeals (Bank of America Deals) often, but a friend of mine sent me a few screenshots of all the offers she has linked to her Bank of America credit cards. If you have a Bank of America credit card, log into your account and see if you have any great offers. Please let me know what you see in your account. Thank you.
Last but not least, it wouldn’t be a Sunday morning without a new round of Staples Easy Rebates. This week is a repeat of last week with more super cheap paper. I like buying the big boxes of 10 reams each and selling them at garage sales. $2 a ream and I get a lot of traffic to my garage. Like I told Julian @ Devil’s Advocate, people leave my garage sale with a great deal on paper and a great big smile on their face :D
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great weekend everyone!
Bluebird card does not give me confirm or deny message. Instead I keep getting a technical error message. How do we enroll a BB card?
Hmm, I don’t have Bluebird Cards, just Serve Cards. You might want to try back later. There might be a glitch with Bluebird Cards.
Pam, what site are you using to register your Bluebird card? I was able to register mine at the shopsmall.com. I had to use that route for my husband’s serve, too, as I could not find it under the Facebook Amex offers. I rec’d email confirmation on both accts. Hope you get it to work!
Thanks! I called Bluebird and I guess when I tried to register it locked up my card. They just unlocked it and I was able to register. 7 total Amex cards registered and ready to go.
Glad Bluebird customer service was able to help. Happy shopping!
Thanks for sharing Michelle.
Are you sure that you can use one American Express card 3 times at the same business on Small Business Saturday? I read over on The Frequent Miler that you could only use each card once per merchant.
I’m not exactly sure. I found an older post that said you can use the same card at the same merchant 3 times and get 3 statement credits. I’m sure we will hear the final answer in the next 2 weeks.
Just went through the FM blogs articles on Small Biz Sa and couldn’t find any mention about one time per card per merchant. Maybe you have the link?
Yes, I couldn’t find the mention either.
I’m curious if your friend is able to get the 10% cash back from BankAmeriDeals at stores like Sears and Office Max on GCs
I assume the cash back counts on GC purchases.
I would also assume they can’t seperate out in store GC purchases, but I am also surprised that I had not heard anything about a 10% CB option considering the Internet goes berserk when AMEX GCs hit 2% on bfrugal!
I believe the BankAmeriDeals are highly targeted, so only a few people get the best offers like Sears and Office Max. The credit card company will pay out the cash back on whatever you buy in store.

Great, thanks for sharing Whitney.
I want to meet the two readers that answered 31+ cards were registered…..or put them on the podium for the next MS meeting that truly happens on the “WEST COAST”
They probably have many authorized user cards or many Bluebird/Serve family/sub accounts.

Remember no gas stations this year. That leave out an easy way to knock out Small Business Saturday purchases. I’ll have to buy three times at the locally owned supermarket instead.
That’s a pretty sweet deal. It is tricky for me, since I will be out of town on SBS so I can’t really stock up on gift cards.
@Grant
Did Amex just send you new Serve cards with the new design or did you request for it? Usually the Serve cards don’t expire for like 8 years (year 2022) so I am wondering if Amex is going to start pushing out the new design cards to all its Serve customers.
Long story short, I closed my first Serve Card and reapplied for a new Serve Card, which came with a design is new.
Hi Grant,
For your each post, why don’t you list the DATE of the post under the line of “Posted by Grant”?
The date would easily tell the readers how old the post is, it’s especially valuable to the Miles/Points world, since the strategies change rapidly.
P.S.: It’s good know your OC meet up, please tell where to find your future Meetup date?
I’m in SD, not too far to OC {Orange County, my guess), it would be fun to meet up like minded folks. Thanks much.
Good evening Tom, I had that feature enabled, but somehow it got disabled by a WordPress plugin update. I re-enabled the post date and the revision date (if necessary).
My next scheduled OC Meetup will be the weekend of December 13 or 14. Date and time TBD. I often go down to San Diego (La Jolla) for FlyerTalk meetups. If I see any announcements for those events, I will share the news on my blog. Have a great evening!
since I have to miss frequent traveler University in DC, maybe I should try to make my mileage run to OC that weekend of 12/13 or 12/14…. agree with above it would be nice to meet up with like-minded people. would that be the Santa Anna airport?
Yes, John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, CA (SNA). I’m probably doing an OC Meetup that day in the evening. You can take UberX from the airport to In-N-Out for under $10.
