App-O-Rama Update: 4 Approvals, 2 Recon Calls, 1 Pending Application, and a Barclays Denial

Advice: you do not need to apply for 6 credit cards at one time.  You should only attempt this if your credit score is high and you have the ability to Manufacture Spend $5,000-$10,000 per month.  Please proceed at your own risk/skill level.

In a nutshell, this is what happened yesterday morning when I applied for 6 cards.

  1. Barclays Arrival Plus Credit Card – automatically denied :(
  2. Citi American Airlines Executive World MasterCard – recon call approved, $5,000 credit line + $4,500 moved from Citi Dividend Credit Card.
  3. AMEX Premier Rewards Gold Charge Card – automatically approved (charge card, no preset credit limit).
  4. Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card – recon call approved, $2,000 credit line.
  5. US Bank Club Carlson Business Credit Card – pending, must wait 24-48 hours for results.
  6. Bank of America Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Credit Card – automatically approved, but for a Platinum Plus credit card with a $2,000 credit line.

Here are more details about each application and approval/denial process…  Continue reading

What’s on My Mind: US Bank FlexPerks FlexPoints, Experian Credit Score, Using Square for Restaurant Bills, Screening Exchange, and my Upcoming App-O-Rama

What’s on My Mind: US Bank FlexPerks FlexPoints, Experian Credit Score, Using Square for Restaurant Bills, Screening Exchange, and my Upcoming App-O-Rama

I know, I know, we are all devastated by the United Airlines revenue-based frequent flyer mile announcement, but hopefully some of these random credit card and news stories will take your mind off of that for a few minutes…

I did a little experiment last month with my US Bank FlexPerks Credit Card and Target (link).  Since my credit card is a Visa and since my local Target is classified as a grocery store by Visa, I wanted to see if I could load $1,000 onto my Target AMEX with my US Bank FlexPerks Credit Card and see if it counted as a “grocery store” purchase, therefore earning 2x FlexPerks.  You can use the Visa Merchant tool by reading this post.

Target AMEX viw US Bank FlexPoints CC

After a “few” grocery store purchases, that sounds like I bought grocery stores.  Let me rephrase that.  After a “few” purchases at grocery stores, I racked up $5,000+ in charges.  I have mostly Ralphs and Pavillions grocery store purchases and 1 large purchase from Target (in the middle).   Continue reading

My Favorite Credit Cards for Manufactured Spend

My Favorite Credit Cards for Manufactured Spend

First off, I am not saying that these are the *best* credit cards for manufactured spend, these are just *my* favorite credit cards to use.  With that said, your travel patterns and preferences might be different than mine, so you might have different credit cards you like to use.  I guess I should also state what manufactured spend means to me:

  • Using your credit card for the sole purpose of earning miles, points, or cash back
  • Converting whatever you purchased back into “cash”
  • The amount of “cash” lost during the transactions should exceed the “value” of the miles, points, or cash back you received from using the credit card

Without further ado, here are my favorite credit cards…  Continue reading

2 $10 Amazon eGift Card Giveaway – Thanks for Shopping on Amazon in May

2 $10 Amazon eGift Card Giveaway – Thanks for Shopping on Amazon in May

Better late than never right?  I would have had this contest a few days ago, but I was a bit busy reporting the latest Walmart gift card reload news.  Anyway, I wanted to thank those of you who continue to shop on Amazon through my link.  For those of you who have never used the Amazon link to the right, the link takes you directly to the Amazon home page.  The link adds a tracking cookie to your shopping session (similar to going through an online shopping portal).  After you check out, I receive a small commission from Amazon based on the total amount of your purchase.  At the end of every month, I like to give back a part of the Amazon commission in the form of contests like this.

Without further ado, here is this month’s contest.  Guess how many Alaska Airlines miles I currently have.  2 hints:

  • I have between 0 and 100,000 Alaska Airlines miles
  • I have a personal and business Alaska Airlines credit card

The contest ends tonight (June 5) at 8PM PST and the 2 closest guesses will win a $10 Amazon eGift Card sent to the email attached to their comment.

How to Book British Airways Avios Award Tickets

How to Book British Airways Avios Award Tickets

In this how-to guide, I will show you how to book a British Airways Avios award ticket.  In my demo, I will book an American Airlines flight, but the steps below will work with US Airways, British Airways, and most OneWorld Alliance airlines.  If you find a flight on AA.com but cannot find it on BA.com, you will have to call British Airways and have them book the award for you.  It will cost $25 for a phone booking fee.

The first step is to search on American Airlines’ website (AA.com) for award space.  In this example, I found an economy award from SNA to DFW during Memorial Day Weekend.
