Good morning everyone, I had a great time at the OC Meetup yesterday afternoon. It was a great mix of new and old friends/readers. I was even given a giant birthday cupcake by my friend from Long Beach. My birthday isn’t until November 27 (Thanksgiving Day), but I gladly appreciate early birthday presents. I will probably have the next OC Meetup on Saturday, December 13, time and place TBD. I will post more info closer to the date.
Other than my birthday being less than 2 weeks away, the other major news item that was announced today was enrollment for Small Business Saturday (November 29) has begun. If you log into your AMEX online account, you should see the Small Business Saturday offer at the very top of your offer list. You can add the offer to all of your AMEX credit and charge cards.
If you have never participated in Small Business Saturday, the concept is simple. For every $10 or more purchase you make at a qualifying small business on Small Business Saturday (November 29), you will receive a $10 statement credit. You can receive up to 3 $10 statement credits per registered AMEX card. From my understanding, you can use the same AMEX card to make all 3 purchases at the same small business. As of today (October 20, 2014), you can add these credit and debit cards to your Passbook (other banks will be supported over the coming weeks/months, including gift cards):
If you have an iPhone 6/Plus that is on 8.1 or newer, you can set up Apple Pay. Click the Passbook icon on your iPhone and then scroll to the very top and click the ‘+’ button to add a credit or debit card to your Passbook.

This offer has been around a while, I mentioned it on September 19 (link), but didn’t plan on taking advantage of the offer until Mark sent me a message. I looked into the offer (spend $15+ and get $5 statement credit) and it seemed like a good deal.
Here are all the $15 gift cards and egift cards that Walmart sells online. I am a big fan of Subway and Starbucks, so I bought a few of those today ($5 off $15 = 33% discount).

Tech Crunch, a technology website, recently posted an article called Hacked Screenshots Show Friend-To-Friend Payments Feature Hidden In Facebook Messenger (link). The article has a few screenshots showing the peer-to-peer payment platform built into the Facebook Messenger app. These features are *not yet active* and Facebook has not officially released any information about the new service.
