What's On My Mind

What’s Up with Grant? CA Fires, CVS-AMEX, Citi Photo Cards, Update on Checkout51, and Hamburg/Copenhagen Planning

Good morning everyone!  California has a had a rough couple of days deals with several forest fires.  I hope my friends/family/readers in San Diego County are all doing ok.  Thank you for all the hard work from the fire fighters and other respondents.  I am going down to San Diego on Saturday June 7 (3 weeks from today) to meet a friend of mine.  She is a big miles/points aficionado like myself, so I wanted to know if anyone would like to join us, a very casual miles/points meetup.  The time and place has yet to be decided, but it will probably be in the afternoon on Saturday.

Also, I have been a *really bad* blogger this week.  I haven’t posted anything in the last 3-4 days so I apologize for not keeping you up to date on the latest miles/points news:

  • Southwest Airlines credit card now 50,000 mile sign up bonus
  • Barclays Arrival Plus credit card now with chip and pin and the same sign up bonus
  • Chase Ink Bold/Plus credit card now with 60,000 Chase UR Points
  • American Express Daily Deals, maybe I should say “deals”, not too impressive this year
  • Evolve Pay now you can pay with some credit cards (mostly MasterCard)
  • Charlotte Mile Madness reviews
  • Whatever else I missed

Just because I haven’t been writing the last few days doesn’t mean I haven’t been experimenting with different topics/ideas.  I have some pretty good posts in the pipeline.  One post that’s been 1+ month in the making is my headache of a problem dealing with CVS and my American Express Target card.  Have you ever had a situation where neither company could help, but then you decided to do a 3 way conference call and have them speak directly to each other and solve the problem?  Ya, that’s what happened here.  I’m glad to finally have my $503.95 back.  More info to come shortly (P.S. crazy story).

Chargeback

Umm, what the heck is a reversal of chargeback and why do you do this to me AMEX??

Sunday Funday: Targeted 1,000 Southwest Airlines RR Points, New Sign Up Link Page, and my Strategy for the US Bank FlexPoints Credit Card

Before I go any further, I wanted to say Happy Mother’s Day to my mom and all the other mothers out there.  Thank you for everything you do!  With that said, I had a few minutes of arts and crafts time today and made a sign with old Vanilla Reload Cards (yes I horde them).  My mom > 1,000,000+ miles or points!

HMD

Now back to travel news.  My mom and I both received targeted offers from Southwest Airlines for 1,000 bonus Southwest Airlines Rapid Reward Points by enrolling in Southwest Airlines email updates (I think I was already enrolled in their email updates).  Both of us have a Southwest Airlines personal credit card.  My dad has a Southwest Airlines personal credit card, but he did not receive an offer (yet?).

Planning your Cabo San Lucas Trip (from Orange County)

Planning your Cabo San Lucas Trip (from Orange County)

If you haven’t already, please read New Southwest Airlines Routes (Orange County to Cabo).

Anyways, since flights are relatively cheap from Orange County (SNA), I convinced my brother to go with me for a short weekend getaway.  Since Southwest points will be devalued started April 1, I strongly recommend burning your stockpile before then.  Southwest has free change and cancellation fees, so there is no excusing to hold onto your Southwest points now.  With that said, flights from SNA to Cabo San Lucas (SJD) are only 11,400 points round trip plus $85 in taxes/fees starting August 10.

SWA Cabo

For those without massive stockpiles of Southwest points, round trip flights can be had for $315.  Much cheaper than $400+ flights on US Airways connecting in Phoenix.  Continue reading

New Southwest Airlines Routes (Orange County to Cabo) and Free Gogo WiFi for a Year with Samsung Galaxy Tablet Purchase

In case you didn’t hear, Southwest Airlines has added a few more routes for later this year.  The Wall Street Journal (link) has all the details, but here are the highlights:

Beginning Aug. 10, 2014, Southwest Airlines will operate daily, nonstop flights between:

  • Cancun, Mexico, and Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, and (Saturdays only) Milwaukee
  • San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico, and Santa Ana/Orange County
  • Nassau, Bahamas, and (Saturdays only) Atlanta

To celebrate the new service, Southwest Airlines is offering introductory fares (including U.S. and non-U.S. taxes and fees) for nonstop flights from these U.S. gateways:

  • Atlanta, Georgia, to Nassau, Bahamas for as low as $127 one-way
  • Baltimore/Washington, Maryland, to Nassau, Bahamas for as low as $126 one-way
  • Denver, Colo., to San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico for as low as $192 one-way*
  • Orlando, Fla., to Montego Bay, Jamaica for as low as $148 one-way
  • Milwaukee, Wisc., to Cancun, Mexico for $214 one-way
  • Santa Ana/Orange County, Calif., and San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico for $143 oneway

Flights from SNA to Cabo are pretty reasonable.  Taxes/fees are a bit higher to/from Mexico than domestic flights in the United States:

A Quick Thank You and a Few Free Southwest Movie Vouchers and Award Wallet Plus Codes

I know I don’t say this enough, but I just wanted to say thank you for all the readers who come to Travel with Grant daily.  Some of you come from Google (more like half of you), some come from other travel blogs, and some come back daily to see what crazy things I’m up to.  Where ever you come from, I want to thank you for visiting and engaging with me and the other readers in the comments.

I would also like to thank those of you who use my Amazon Affiliate Link *its right there >>*.  I have almost earned enough for a first class airline ticket booklet of stamps.  All those small purchases add up and I am very thankful that you used my link.

Anyway, let’s get to the free stuff, shall we?  I got 2 free movie passes for Southwest Airlines for being a Southwest Airlines credit card holder.  I got them right around Valentine’s Day and have no plans to use them.
