How to Transfer British Airways Avios to Iberia Avios
This process is not as simple and straightforward as the title implies. Actually it is kind of complex and requires transferring American Express Membership Reward Points from your account to your Iberia account. Don’t worry, I will show you how to do it – one step at a time.
If you are unfamiliar with the benefits of Iberia Plus and their award chart, please read the article written by The Points Guy – Maximizing British Airways Avios: Save Money on Fuel Surcharges and Fees – Transfer British Airways Avios to Iberia.
Log into your American Express account and find your Membership Rewards earning card and click the Use Points button.

Now you need to go back to the transfer page. Follow these steps again.
Enter 1,000 in the top box and click the Transfer This Amount button.
A pop-up window will appear, click the Accept button.
Enter your 3 digit and 4 digit security codes from your American Express card.

whats the benefits of having IB Avios for award redemption ?
Generally you pay less taxes/fees on awards than going through British Airways.
Thanks for the post! Do you remember when you first signed up for Iberia Plus, it asked for an identification document. When I choose Passport and enter in my US Passport number it errors out. How did you get around this in your application???
I have had an account for a long time, but never had any miles in it for a long time too. I don’t remember having any problems with the passport. Make sure you select USA as the country and enter your passport number. It should work.
Does Amex, like chase, have a warning about transferring points only to your own Iberia account? The reason I’m asking is I’m wondering if someone else would be able to transfer points to my Iberia account or not.
Hmm, if they can add your Iberia account to their AMEX account, then the transfer should go through fine. There is no warning but they won’t be able to change the Iberia account listed easily online.
