Choice Hotel Privileges Points take 13 Days to Transfer to Alaska Airlines

Just a quick follow-up post to Choice Points Post – How to Transfer to AA / AS / DL / UA / US / SWA.  In that post, I showed you how to transfer your Choice Privileges Points to American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, and Southwest Airlines.  All transfer were made within an hour of each other on Thursday, July 11.

This morning (Wednesday, July 24), the Alaska Airlines miles posted to my account.  Don’t be confused by the date (7/11/13), that is when I transferred the points from Choice to my Alaska Airlines account.  I had been checking this account every day for the miles and they finally showed up today.  

Here is a recap of when all the transfer posted:

• 8 Days (morning) – Southwest Airlines
• 12 Days (morning) – American Airlines
• 12 Days (evening) – US Airways
• 12 Days (evening) – United Airlines
• 12 Days (evening) – Delta Airlines
• 13 Days (morning) – Alaska Airlines

My results aren’t scientific.  Depending on what day and time of day you initiate your transfer, your miles may take more or less time to show up in your account.  My experience was similar to Hilton HHonors: Transfering Miles from Hawaiian Airlines and Virgin Atlantic take between 7-11 Days to Post.

Moral of the story?  If you plan on transferring your Choice Privileges Points to an Airline, allow 1-2 weeks for the miles to post.  If you plan on transferring to Southwest Airlines, I would recommend doing so soon.  Their transfer ratio is much better than the other airlines and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 6,000 Choice Privileges Points to 1,800 Southwest Airlines Rapid Reward Points ratio reduced to 5,000 Choice Privileges Points to 1,000 Southwest Rapid Reward Points.
