PayPal now lets you Pay with Prepaid Debit Cards

I was using PayPal over the weekend to do some shopping and noticed that new link in the right corner of the screen that said “Now accepting prepaid gift cards.”  I had never seen that before and was curious about the new feature.

Apparently, you can now add a prepaid gift (debit) card to PayPal and use it like a normal credit card to pay for things through PayPal.  I though PayPal verified your name and billing address when adding a card to your PayPal account, but this looks like that is not required anymore.

I am not sure how this matters to anyone, but thought I would share anyways.  There are lots of smart people out there who might find a way to benefit from this new feature.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.

P.S. – I am working on a post on how to get Amazon Prime membership for a fraction of the full price, how to get Amazon Prime for free, and how to make money with your Amazon Prime account, so stay tuned til after Halloween to  find out.

Also, I will show you how you can turn any hard drive into an external hard drive used for back up (it is a lot easier than you probably think).

This may be off-topic, but is it possible to link a credit card to Paypal, register a PIN, and then have them charge your credit card when doing store transactions? This hypothetically would be helpful if you go to a store to buy a reload card or Visa gift card, and they have a cash or debit card only policy; you could pay using a debit card but indirectly use a credit card.

My account looks similar, but only says “prepaid card” not gift card, and requires a billing address. Did you just white out that part in your screenshot, or does it not ask you for a billing address? Also, this option is available on my account, but not my wife’s.

I hope this is true because I purchased 2 $500 visa gift card from my credit union sending one as a gift and wanting to purchase items on a card other than my regular credit card. I was unable to use them and this really annoyed me. I had to sell my card to a friend to get some of my cash back.

If you sell on eBay, you will have to pay final value fees after an item is sold. That payment goes directly to eBay. You can pay eBay with a credit/debit/gift card directly. When you receive payment from PayPal, they will automatically take their 2.9% cut from the total payment. Do you have any other questions?

You will need to link your real bank account to PayPal to verify your PayPal account. Then you will be able to move funds between both accounts.

hi, thanks for your reply. I cannot link my real bank account as paypal would know who I am.
I want to open some kind of a card and link it to ebay in somebody elses name.

My real bank account is linked to another ebay account which was restricted last year.

        thanks joan

I don’t think PayPal will let you link your bank to a PayPal account in someone else’s name, and vice versa. Can you open a new bank account or something?
