Calling Bluebird to Verify Debit Card and Bank Account Information

If you have tried to load your Bluebird Card with a debit card online (see this post), you may have seen the following error messages.

BB Message

Recently I have started seeing this error message show up in my Bluebird account when I try to load my Bluebird Card with my PayPal Debit Card.  I called Bluebird customer service last night and they needed to verify some of my personal information and accounts.  They needed proof that my PayPal Debit Card was registered in my name and to my mailing address and some information with about my bank account.

When I called last night, they informed me that they would need to conference in PayPal and my bank (OC Credit Union).  Since PayPal is open 24/7 but my bank is open at 8am PST, they told me to call back in the morning.

This morning, I called the direct Bluebird account verification department (1-800-660-2454).  You do not get a friendly Bluebird customer service agent, but an agent that sounded similar to the American Express Financial Review department.  They speak very strictly, so you have to be on your game with all your accounts and numbers in order.

Anyways, after I called Bluebird this morning, the agent called PayPal and after a 10 minute hold, I was finally able to speak with the PayPal representative.  The PayPal representative was unable to find my PayPal Debit Card in PayPal’s system, even after giving her the entire 16 digit card number.  At that point, I could sense that the Bluebird agent was very skeptical of me.  I pushed the PayPal representative to double check and to log into my PayPal account and look at my current PayPal Debit Cards.  At that point, that PayPal representative was able to find my PayPal Debit Card and verify my name and mailing address.

One down and one to go.

Next, the Bluebird agent called my bank.  After a few minutes on hold, the Bluebird agent stated that she was able to verify my bank account information and she restored full access to my Bluebird account, including online debit card funding.  I attempted to load my Bluebird account with a $100 online reload and it worked perfectly.

If it wasn’t for the long hold time and if the PayPal representative could have found my card right away, it would have been really easy.

I’m glad everything worked out for you.

Also if you try adding one of the ‘gift card’ type debit cards, bluebird does not allow you to transfer money from them and you get a call from an agent that they are deleting the card because it is not a valid card. The same card works like a charm when you load it into bluebird from walmart. imho vanilla reloads are the only option to painlessly load money into bluebird online (without going to walmart)

Went through this just a bit ago. NOT the friendliest folks out there. Then the poor PayPal guy came on and he seemed confused like he didn’t know what the fuss was all about.
Then the Bluebird lady kept asking the PayPal guy if my PayPal card was a prepaid card. He said no, it is a debit card – so she asked him again and again. He was getting irritated.
But it was kinda fun to listen to.
I guess I am good now. Who knows? The whole thing seemed rather unorganized and the rep for Bluebird seemed really cranky. Can’t Bluebird find NICE reps?
    Glad it is over.

I said I did not have one. Didn’t want to give them any more options than were already on the table. That seemed to be enough to confuse her. I didn’t want to be on the phone all day with Ms. Crabby Pants.
The PayPal guy acted like he thought it was a complete waste of time and utterly ridiculous. LOL

My PayPal rep couldn’t see that I had any PayPal debit cards. I was like, I’ve had this card literally 5+ years, how can you not see it? After trying a few things, he was able to find it. It was very strange. The Bluebird lady probably had a smirk on her face when the PayPal guy couldn’t find the card.

I entered my pin number in wrong at the ATM. Bluebird blocked my card, been calling for a week. Got hung up on SEVERAL times, yelling in the phone that he couldn’t hear me, then hung up!

Nobody is in from Anerica, not friendly, and when do reps asks for your entire card number???? Sounded sketchy to me, and during this pandemic, I cannot access my money!!!

I’m really sorry that this happened to you. My only suggestion would be to reach out to AMEX via twitter or by phone and see if they can route you to the correct department for Bluebird cards.

I have been loading Visa debit cards from staples onto my and wife’s BlueBird acts. for a month. All of a sudden mine get blocked and hers continue. I called, did conference with bank and they approved some specific debit card (I believe one of the many I have blocked). I said my wife’s work fine and the BB rep kept repeating “pre-paid debit’s are not allowed”. So if these begin to be blocked completely is there a way I can use my Bold card at Staples and load it to BlueBird? I only get VRC’s at CVS.
    Thanks for any help.

You would have to take the gift cards to Walmart to be loaded to your Bluebird Card. Online reloads are only for true debit cards, not gift cards with PINs.

Hi Baron, I’m sorry your bluebird card was hacked. I would call the number on the back of your bluebird card and request a replacement card and to dispute the unauthorized charge.
