San Diego Miles and Points Meet Up on Saturday June 7
One of my close friends lives down in San Diego and she has been telling me to come down and do a miles and points meet up. After comparing our travel schedules, we finally settled on Saturday June 7. The location and time has yet to be set. If no one shows up, I guess it will just be the two of us, sharing millions* of secrets about travel hacking, booking premium class awards, hotel loyalty programs, and sweet cash back deals.
(*slight exaggeration)
I also have a Marriott Category 1-5 Free Night Certificate that expires at the end of July, that I need to use as well.
I have narrowed down my choices to these 3 properties. I will probably book whatever hotel is close to where we meet, when that is decided. Since I don’t San Diego very well (besides Legoland, Sea World, and Petco Park), I am open to suggestions for places to meet, probably for a casual dinner.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know. If you will be able to attend or think you might be able to attend, please let me know as well. I’m looking forward to meeting some new faces next weekend.
Grant: Do you know if you can use AMEX gift certs to buy Walmart Money Orders? I was denied today. The device (with a register paying attention…non idiot) asked for my 3 digit code. I entered the 3 digits on the back. Wouldn’t take it. She told me that they (meaning all of Walmart) does not take AMEX gift certs for money orders. She was real nice about it. However, I’ve read tons of past blog articles that say they do.
Any thoughts?
American Express gift certificates, not gift cards? I have never heard about American Express gift certificates. I know you *cannot* use American Express gift cards since they do not have PINs.
I’m in San Diego and would love to come. I can definitely recommend that Courtyard Central – I had a nice stay there on a MegaBonus certificate a couple months ago. Have been to the Residence Inn too, but I prefer the Courtyard. Both are easy driving distance to everything in downtown/uptown.
Cool, thanks Ben, I will probably book the Courtyard then. Any recommendations for places to meet up for dinner?
I’m interested in joining your get-together in SD.
Thanks Chris, do you have a recommendation for a place to meet up for dinner?
Would like to join you if I can swing it. Please keep us updated on your plans.
Will do Eddy, stay tuned!
Cards not certs. My mistake. Thanks for the info!
No problem Mike. Glad I could answer your question.
I recommend either a boba tea shop or a ramen place. There are several of them in the Convoy area, where the Courtyard SD Central is located.
Tea N More is very spacious and has couches to relax on (http://www.yelp.com/biz/tea-n-more-san-diego#query:boba).
Santouka Ramen has great ramen and is in a food court of a Japanese supermarket so you can talk for hours if you want (http://www.yelp.com/biz/santouka-ramen-san-diego#query:Best%20Ramen).
Thank you for the recommendations Taro.
Grant – If I’m local, I’m in. Really looking forward to it.
I hope your local then. See you there Jake!
We have 3 Barclay’s Arrival cards in our family. They just sent a pretty easy promo to hit. Spend $750 in June, July, and Aug (each month, no misses), and get 5000 points.
That’s an easy $50 when you can simply by gift cards. I checked the fine print. They’re not excluded.
That’s a pretty sweet promo. I would take that in a heart beat.
Oooooo…..great idea!
You should hole one in OC!!!
I’ve had 2 in the OC, next one is planned for the first weekend in August. I’ll get it organized with Travel Summary.
Grant – A couple friends and I would like to join. We are fans of you… :-).. Please let me know what kind of food you like to eat. I will make some recommendations. There are many restaurants in Downtown Gaslamp, Seaport Village, Headquarters (new shopping area next Seaport Village), etc…
Thank you Steven, I’m surprised I have so many fans in SD. Any restaurants you can recommend near the Courtyard Marriott?
Grant – If you are staying at Residence Inn La Jolla, how about P.F Chang by UTC mall? – http://www.pfchangs.com/menu/?sid=1300
I like the Steven suggestion – we can all use GCs and get up to $10 cash back per California law!
I love Chinese food. Thank you for the recommendation. I plan on have a poll to see which restaurant is the most popular.
I like PF Changs, but I wonder if it would be busy on a Saturday night. We could certainly make a reservation, but they may not want us to hang out and talk for a few hours after dinner if they are busy. Maybe we could head to a boba tea shop or a starbucks or something like that after dinner for a good place to chat.
That’s a good idea Chris, a two part meet up could work.
